 Make KDM-Theme

Hi!
I'm trying to make a KDM-theme. I wonder if there is a better way to make one than the way I'm doing it now?

The way I'm doing it seems a bit compilcated. I use a xml-config from another theme that I alter. Then tar it together, install the theme, then log out to check it. This I do over and over again to check every changes I do in the xml-config.

Is there no other way to check the changes? It's really time consuming.

open a second session instead of logging in and out
if you don't log into the second session, it'll be killed after a while, otherwise you can ctrl+alt+backspace to restart the xserver (DON'T DO THAT IN YOUR WORKING SESSION - THERE'S NO "are you sure" DIALOG)

Well, the theme is done now :P but I got another question. How do I make a screenshot of KDM? I have googled all night but the few answers dose not work. "unable to open xserver :0" or something like that. Anyone got a nice howto for this? :)

Ok, I managed to make a screenshot. What I did was to edit /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsetup. I added this line into that file:
sleep 30 && import -window root /tmp/kdm.png &
Then I rebooted and waited 30 seconds in the KDM-login screen before I logged in.

The shoot will end up in /tmp/ (naturally:P)

That's an interesting way of getting a screenshot. I use virtualbox to get all mine, "grub" "splashy" "kdm" & "Ksplash"

Its also a good way to test them without re-booting.

Install kdmtheme.

in console:

sudo apt-get install kdmtheme

then go to kde control centre (kcontrol). You will find the theme installer under Systemadmin.

The kdm-theme you install should be in a tar.gz-format.

You need to add some repositories in your /etc/apt/sources.list

Do this in a console:
sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list

Then uncomment all "deb http://blaha.blaha...." (only remove # before the lines starting with deb http://....)

Save the file and close kate. Then in console:
sudo apt-get update

Now you should be able to install kdmtheme

sudo apt-get install kdmtheme

You can read this first so you understand what you are doing :)

 kde4 color scheme

 by knowheretorun on: Apr 15 2008

Score 50%

I can't find any documentation about kde4 color scheme. I'm particularly interested in these:
ForegroundNegative=R,G,B
ForegroundNeutral=R,G,B
ForegroundNormal=R,G,B
ForegroundPositive=R,G,B

I've noticed that negative color is used on window decoration close [X] button hover and positive (IIRC) was used on loading link in new tab in konqueror.
Does anyone know there exactly these colors are used in kde4?

Best information regarding this I could find:

dekorator is a kde thing and as you are useing ubuntu it is a gnome desktop. you need to download the kubuntu addon to the system in apt manager or something like that. im a rpm user not a deb package user.

fedora 8 for me all the way.

Linux, surpass the best. Leave it to the rest.

Dekorator is in the repositories, check over there http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=dekorator&searchon=names&suite=all&section=all. So I guess a sudo apt-get install kwin-style-dekorator should do it provided you have the universe repositories activated, and that your ubuntu version is feisty or superior :) Have fun ;)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
