????
Under KDE:
Systemsettings->Keyboard & Mouse->Mouse->Pointer Design
Install new design
or unpack it into $HOME/.icons and select it by following the path shown above.

Don't know if the labels are all correct, because I'm on a german system. Perhaps pointer is called cursor in en_US.
But you should find it nevertheless.

KDE 3.x apps on KDE 4.x

Does anyone know how to install the necessary libraries to compile KDE 3.x apps to use on KDE 4? I do not what to install the whole KDE 3.x desktop. As a new KDE user, I have committed to KDE 4.2.90 (Kubuntu 9.04). I just want to be able o access all the apps that are available instead of the 4.x only apps.

As you use Kubuntu, just install the application using apt-get. All required dependencies will be installed automatically. What these dependencies are depends on the application.

Now that I have a fully stable KDE 4.2 desktop running on Slackware 12.2, I've had a chance to play around with all of the nifty features that put KDE well beyond Vista in terms of graphical effects. The Alt-Tab switcher and Desktop Cube are two of my favorite features and ones that get the biggest WOWs when I show off my system to non-linux users.

I've done a little searching around and unless I am missing it, I can not find a screensaver that takes the 3D desktop and rotates it around various axes. I used to use the Lament screensaver anytime I set up a Linux box, and after installing KDE4, I started to select it again and though, "Well, If I'm going to have a rotating cube, why not my desktop?!?"

If there is one already out there, where is it? Or, if someone can point me in the right direction of 3D screensaver development, I'll give putting one together a shot.

Thanks!

Ever tried kcometen4 screensaver?
For me showing my complete desktop on a rotating cube while it's locked, isn't an option.
Don't be confused by its name. It shows part of your desktop in 3D and can be highly configured.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just installed KCometen4 and messed with the configuration a bit. Definitely the closest to the effect I am looking for. I am currently scanning through the source code to see about flipping the viewport outside the box. Definitely need to do some studying on openGL and 3D math. Thank you again for your help.

since no one else is reporting this problem I can only assume it is me.

when I copy a mp3 file and encounter a file exist message box, all of the fields are empty. properties shows that the data is avalable but it does not display. I am running Kubuntu 9.04, kde 4.2.2 with desktop effects enabled.

I have tried most of the file browsers, nautilus krusader dolphin and thurun and I get the same response. The information is listed under properties, but it does not display during the skip or replace operation. I have installed almost all of id3 and metadata libs I can find, and I just went throught the list of recommended libs for KDE and appear to have them all. It could be something in kde which is not likely since the same problem occurs in gnome.

It must be either a common file that is no longer being installed or something in the x-windows configuration.

can someone please tell me what i am missing or need to reinstall

Don't know about the other failures, but this is a superkaramba file and not a plasmoid.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
