 Light Bulb / Sunrise

by iamethos on: Jul 28 2006

Score 50%

Someone posted a wallpaper here that was taken from a photo on Deviant Art. The picture was of a lightbulb lying on the ground with a sunrise behind it. The rising sun was shining through the lightbulb in a way that made the lightbulb appear illuminated. Does anyone remember this? I've been looking for it for some time and I just can't seem to find it again. I am looking for the DeviantArt page OR the kde-look page. It may have also been from gnome-look.org, but I don't think so. Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can offer.

Hi I'm Building a puppy linux distro, what I need is some Icon's and Background Images Specialised just for this distro, The name of the distro will be "Drunken Bloated Puppy" aka DBP Linux so the background image should be accordingly done, I picture a cute dog who is half corked and laying upside down with beer bottles, glasses all scattered around, the labels should say puppy beer and maybe with a dog holding a beer, The icons I would like maybe round, and I would have to make a list of apps being installed, Also a theme would be excellent, start menu, button, etc.if anyone would like to give this a shot , could you not post any images, I want them solely for this distro and would like to unveil it in a couple of months, Anyone who's art get accepted will be able to download this distro before its release and will have your name added to a list of people who contribute to it, if you would like. Please email me if your interested at jeffdewe@gmail.com I would like all contact via email and kept secretly, Thanks for your time. Jeff

 Nudity

Just to clarify something: I'm not against nudity or anything. This post isn't like a "OMG nudes!! Satan's work!!" type fundamentalist crap.

Lately there's been a lot of nudity on KDE-Look. While I normally wouldn't be opposed to this, it's kinda getting annoying cause this site is supposed to be an artwork site. Frank, you should create a new category for nudity or something, because it is not artwork. I'm not saying it's not nice to look at, it just isn't artwork.

And because many are apposed to this sort of content might I suggest a filter which is enabled by default.

Tell the masters it isn't art. Perhaps then remove it from the great museums of the world. Bottecelli, Rubins, Latrec, Davinci, Michealangelo, the Greeks. Nah not a one of them ever created art ... cuzzin they was all nudes. Remember these were all once new, all once the works of new and unproven artists.

Might I suggest clicking the "Don't show wallpapers" checkbox?

Well, as several pieces of such work have mysteriously vanished, including the controversial "New KDE Mascot" work, it seems as bible-bashers pseudofacism has won.

It is sad to see that those who passively consume the benefits of a more open, more free software community try to enforce their restricted morales on it in the very same moment. This parasitic behaviour should be seen as a warning - one might think what outrage would arise if not nudity in pictures on KDE-Look would be attacked, but if there were a crusade against the GPL in favour if the BSD license to a similar extend. What if 5% of worlds population (this represents those I'd call "christian fundamentalists") found BSDs mascot inapproproate for being a depiction of evil? How about gears being offensive of everyone that has been crippled by unsafe machinery?

Nude imagery is as old as mankind - the first representations of people in the stone age were unclothed. Antique Mediterran cultures often depicted their deities as being nude. Some of the greatest works that were created after ~1500 are depicting people in next-to-none and no clothing.

Is nude imagery not art? What qualifies to be art? Aesthetics? Some nude pictures have those, and more or less all pictures of this kind I've seen at kde-look do have for sure. I am aware that some people have problems accepting some "modern art" as being artistic. Does this make it less a work of creativity? Is a well-shot photo any less a representation of ability or experience than a pencil, a quill or a brush?
Some professional photo workers like at http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/cat/1926 might disagree

Therefore: KDE-Look should stay an open community that restricts works and artists as little as possible, and stop censoring material because some religious fanatics disprove.

I understand that one of the primary principles behind free software is free choice. I am a Christian, yes I belive that I should not look at such images. I belive that God Himself has given everyone the choice of wheather to belive and follow or not. That said out of respect for Christians and others who do not find nudity appropriate could this forum please seperate such content into it's own section so that thoose who choose to download/view/or use these images can still view them, and the rest of us can browse the wonderfull art(thanks to all who have posted on KDE-Look) without having to be exposed to such content?

With the same right one could demand a special "christian art sector" where all stuff related christian imagery or christian slogans (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=46327 anyone?) would be put into. There could be a special "women section" where all depictions of women would be put into: Just think about how a radical Taliban would be offended by todays kde-look.org.
How about a "war machine section", because depictions of weapons for killing people really offend me (I consider myself buddhist)? Hey, one could also have a special "penguin section", because I am sure some people think penguins are in no relation to KDE.

The moment kde really starts to desecrate its users because of some weirdos beliefes is the moment much of what the commumity stands for will be lost.

The question is where to draw the line once such a measure has been set up. More appropriate is the moderation system: It is democracy in a pure form: Content that is deemed inappropriate by the majority of people is voted down, content most people like is voted up.

Please consider that "Christian Anatomy" currently is voted at 37%, whereas the vanished "new KDE Mascot" was in the 70% range.

Please also note that your holy book is full of erotic descriptions of women (ksword to my rescue). Just consider the Song of Solomon.

Oh please.

I'm a former christian - yes, former, 'cause I used to beleive in Him but now I don't care if He exists or not. And even when I WAS a christian, nothing fazed me when looking at nudes. I'd listen to you more had you said "Think of the children!", but then again, they'll see that one way or the other. Meh.

As for the liberties you speak of... would you mind having a freakin filter? Or at least use a Christian Proxy which blocks such "offending skin"? I don't think the "free people" (or at least the opinion-neutral KDE-look/apps) will listen to you and make a section based on "ooh you're offending gawd!". You'd have more luck bombing the servers.

If something like this will be done at some point, please do it as filter, so I can also block christian images.

I get the creeps when I look at some of the worse bible citations (and sadly those are the most cited ones).

I am mostly atheist (to the extend that I know that I can't be sure that there's no god, but I don't really care - may there be one or many, may all be the same or may all gods just be spirits who try to make people believe in them so they get power - or eternal servitude in their "paradise" after death, or may there be none at all).

But I get easily annoyed by christian art, so if you do a filter system for christians, please also do one for those of us who are opposed to christian content.

But getting the wallpapers right, so people don't have to crosspost a wallpapers to different resolutions, is more important to me :)

to make a ksplash, first find a system 1 u want to copy :-) then copy it into a new directory.

make your tweaks.

stick EVERYTHING into a targiz (.tar.gz) and in ksplash, say Add New Theme. add your splash, test it, then put the targiz on the web

 Copyright violation

Hm, the number of copyright violations is not shrinking at all here at kde-look.org. Is there anything happening to prevent that?

I propose a button like "this may violate copyright" below the other "buttons" "how to install", "send to a friend", "subscription" and "print". The page admin could check every piece of artwork which got more than x marks and could ask the uploader to not do this any longer.

Or is this too much work?

It is too much work.

In the past a lot people told uploaders, who uploaded cr violations, not to do that, but nothing changed. Some seem not to (be willing to???) understand this issue.

And then the problem is: Who shall an Editor prove that there is really a violation without an official statement from the copyright owner?

And last but not least, there is the little text that states, that the uploader is responsibly for his content and the additional checkbox, with which the uploader testifies that the content does not violate any copyrights.

I know that it is pretty much work - but because of this fact I would suggest a button system for Spam and crv. When a thing gets too many crv or spam hits, it is automatically deleted. And the uploader account becomes closed for further uploads.

And how you know what crv is and what not? Well, I think it would be better to be on the save side and remove everything which is in doubt.

Anyhow, your decission. I just wanted to mention it - the way to tell uploaders only is not the way to go as long as they are not punished.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
