 Fullscreen Ksplash ?

 by swim on: Jan 4 2005

Score 50%

Hi, Im trying to make a ksplash where there is a fullscreen background image, that has flashing icons (like the regular non-fullscreen kde splashes do) at the bottomo of the screen. Ive tried using the Default engine and it doesnt work, neither does the Redmond engine. I cannot find any info on how to do this. I want something that sort of looks like this splash: http://kdelook.org/content/show.php?content=9323&xexpand=level1
I downloaded this splash but it doesnt even have a Theme.rc, and I cant get it to work anyways... any help would be appreciated thanks.

Take for example 1024x768 picture. You should divide it in (from top to bottom):
-1024x688 splash_top.png
-1024x62 splash_###_bar.png
-1024x18 splash_bottom.png
On blank 1024x62 picture you should place, from left to right in proper distances (you have to experiment, something like 0,5 cm) seven icons which you will made flashing. Select all of them,place from left on splash_###_bar.png and save it as splash_active_bar.png. Now, decolorize (in Gimp it's called decolorize) your set of icons on blank 1024x62 picture, and the same way like earlier place from left on splash_###_bar.png. Remember, decolorized set must be in the same place. Save this picture as splash_inactive_bar.png. Now, you can delete splash_###_bar.png. And now, the great final. You should place all this files in folder named like you splash theme, then you must create Theme.rc file. It looks something like this:

[KSplash Theme: Something]
Name = Something
Description = My first splash screen
Version = 1.0
Author = Somebody
Homepage =

# Theme behaviour settings.
Engine = Default

# Should icons blink ala KDE, or not?
Icons Flashing = true

Remeber to set (folder, Ksplash theme section, and Name)the same name everywhere, cause ksplash wont's show your description. Finally, test your theme with ksplash, correct errors, and make screenshot named Preview.png and save it in your splash theme folder. Huh, that's all folks! Enjoy!

I have no idea why...If you selected in control center (and it had worked) your theme and applied, it should work...

does the icons not flashing have anything to do with the size of splash_top.png?

i've observed that all splashs (not fullscreens) are 400x278 (400x300 including splash_{in}active_bar.png).

how does ksplash calculate icon sizes to blink? is it width/7 pixels and blink each block one after the other or is there some other way?

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I've been playing around all day and still haven't figured out the correct size of the blinking icons.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty good, but your splash won't work, because your icons are centered while have to be on left side of the screen. Icons flashing from left to right, but your icons set must be placed in (i guess) 1 cm form left side of screen. Then when spalsh is running the splash_inactive_bar.png morphs to splash_active_bar.png with (guessing) 3 cm long squares. Look at my splash,you should see it. I don't know about another mechanisms of blinking exept Default, so it is probably possible to flash icons on center of the screen.

My splash:

Hi,

I'm looking for a simple way to restrict the input size (characters/bytes) of ktextedit.
Found nothing in the docs or google.

Thanks, Gerd

dunno if this is easy enough, but you could install an eventfilter, where you listen for keyevents (probably keypress will be enough, catches autorepeats :), check the textedits length() and fire the event if (lenth() == max && (ev.kex() >= Qt::Key_Space && ev.kex() =< Qt::Key_ydiaeresis)) (that should catch any)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
