 Window decorations

...trouble.

I'm a complete newbie in C++ so I guess my problem is very trivial.

I'm trying to patch a window decoration but it works differently in Kontrol Center and on the desktop. In particulary, I'm trying to remove that "depressed" look (as if the content of the window was deeper than its decoration).

The configuration dialog shows that my tiny patch is OK --It's beautiful!-- but once applied the depressed look is back. That can't happen because I removed the corresponding drawing instructions and changed the other ones to paint the border with the background color. So, I'm wondering, is there an "automatic depression" flag somewhere? Something else I don't think about?

I do "make uninstall" and switch to another decoration in between each "make install". Is that enough? This decoration was installed and used so maybe it remains somewhere in the "lib process unit" although I uninstalled it?

You need to reload KWin. It looks okay in the configuration dialog, because you're reloading that kcontrol page each time. But the window manager still has your old decoration library in memory. You need to restart the window manager. Rather than logging out and then back in, try running the command "kwin --replace". This replaces the currently running window manager (kwin or other) with a new instance of kwin.

well, I don't think this helps !

for new projects sometimes...

> make -f Makefile.cvs

needs to be run at least once to get .am .in files freshened.

but no more compiler output please !

usually just the first couple of lines is enough...

kdb2html missing where i can get that

was plenty or in this case for automake

the last couple of lines

if you type 'kdb2html' into google the first thing that comes up is...
KDE 3.1rc5 kdb2html

try it you'll like it.

wellcome to autoconf hell, try to downgrade to automake 1.6. The warnings are superflous. The important is the _m4_divert_diversion error. If you get to solve the problem, please contact me.

I think it's not good form to post such a huge text output. It's far too massive for a forum like this. Next time try one of the KDE support mailing list. You'll get better help there as well.

Hai,

One of my M$ Windows friend challenged
me "Can this be done on Linux???"

http://skinz.org/zoom.phtml?skinid=216

My answer, though tentatively is YES
we can do it with superKaramba!

What do you guys say?

Not to be mean, but IMHO it was quite ugly :P
To topic: I think YES. Not only with superkaramba, I think it wouldn't be too hard to code?

The sample screenshot, to put it politely, pillages and plunders the desktop real estate. It's "ugly" in the sense that the usability is ugly, horrendous and nasty.

It is possible to do MUCH better with superkaramba (note the non-antialiased borders, poor m$ can't code a support for alpha-channel for PNGs). The colors are teletubbish. The usability is quite low. I'd rather have something more useful (liquid weather, CPU usage meter, xmms controls) sitting on my desktop since I do not use K menu at all (who needs it when we have Alt+F2).

 Screenshots

by Ekardnam on: Dec 13 2004

Hi there.

There are some apps that use screenshots of Windows: such as Komposé, KasBar, Taskbar2...
Wouldn't it be handy with ONE KDE-app. that takes the screenshot and handles them, then the other apps just shows them.
Ofcourse, you can turn that app off, or edit the e.g interval.
I like the screenshot features, and would like to see more in the future (maybe something like Mac OS dock app, but dock the apps on dekstop and show the latest screenshot + app icon in a corner...).

But to get it work, wouldn't it be much better for one app to handle all screenshot, instead of each app taking a screenshot?

I'm not a developer, nor a programmer, so I'm not really sure about things like this. But my logic says this would be much better :P

With X.org this can be done through the Xcomposite extension.

 Porting WB skins?

by seanr on: Dec 31 2004

Score 50%

I have a skin that I created for WindowBlinds which I would like to port to KDE. An older version of it is available at http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/173016/ - I know I uploaded a newer one somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I'd really like to get this into KDE without too much agony if at all possible. Any help/suggestions/etc. would be greatly appreciated.

If I figure out what the hell I did with v1.5 of that, I'll post it here as well. ;)

The "Quartz" windec is a lot like that. That might be the best template to start from.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
