Description:

3gp converter is a GUI(kommander script) that uses ffmpeg to convert video files in the 3gp format, which is used by mobile phones. Custom encoding parameters can be set for video streams, such as resolution, aspect ratio, cropping, bitrate, framerate, used codec (h263, mpeg4), and one or two pass encoding. For audio streams, bitrate, samplerate (AAC only),stereo of mono sound (AAC only),audio volume(fade in,fade out), and audio codec (amr_nb, AAC) can be chosen, you can encode AMR audio files(can be usefull for old mobiles). Also you can cantrol priority of encoding, set size and time limits of encoded file.

 New version...

by scottuss on: May 6 2007

I like the new version. The GUI is great, lots of new options and little tweaks that look good but I find problems with changing the resolution again.

Would it be possible for you to list a few more standard resolution settings instead of just the 2 default 128x96 and 176X144? If I try to do it manually it wont encode

Actually valid resolutions for H.263 codec are 128x96, 176x144, 352x288, 704x576, and 1408x1152.
And you can`t encode video by this codec with any other resolutions.
The rwo last resolutions are useless for mobile phones... I can add only 352x288 preset, but I`m
not sure if the mobiles can handle such size.
Btw mpeg4 codec hasn`t such limitations ,so if your mobile can decode mpeg4 you can try
mpeg4 codec with desired picture size.

 VERY nice

VERY nice on this latest version.

However I still noticed the 2 convert buttons one on top of the other. Is there a reason for this that I am missing?

Good job.

May be it`s ugly, but the second convert button appears, when AMR-only audio checkbox is checked and the button runs another script.objet and it has another error messageas. It was a fast way to implant amr-oly encodinging in earlier versions and since then I was too lazy to rewrite the code :) May be later I`ll solve it..

 weird stuff

 by vetal17 on: Jan 16 2008

this is really strange
i'm trying to convert a video to h263/aac (3gp) file. I check the AAC codec checkbox
but when I press convert it says that I need the amr_nb codec.
my ffmpeg supports h263, mpeg4, aac
what's wrong?

Type ffmpeg -formats in a terminal.

You should see the line --enable-amr_nb

If you dont then ffmpeg has not been compiled for that codec. You will need to get a precompiled version with the proper codes installed or compile it your self.
