Just a .desktop file to put ElectricSheep into KScreensaver.

Just untar it into $KDEROOT/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers

 Baaaad sheep

Seems that the sheep process doesn't terminate when the screensaver closes. Keeps running in the background.

More sheep processes are added every time the screensaver runs and will eventually overrun the system.

Anyone else find this? Try launching electricsheep from kscreensaver then kill it and check your running processes.

If anyone can find a way around this I'd love to hear it.

Problem solved by upgrading to the latest version of QT.

Excellent, thank-you. I thought I was going to have to patch or replace or at least recompile something to get electricsheep working in KDE. Nice that it's simple, and that you've done it already :)

 size of ~/.sheep

Hi.

I figured I might just ask this here, google didn't turn up anything useful.

electrisheep dumps its movies into ~/.sheep which can take up a lot of space over time.

Now the binary has commandline options to limit this usage (--max-megabytes, --min-megabytes), but if started from KDE it sdoesn't seem to use these (you can set them in .xscreensaver for xscreesaver)

How can I specify such options in KDE screensaver?

 Do not work.

Hi!

I don't get this to work.

I use Kubuntu with kde4.1.

The screensaver just won't show up in the screensaver settings. I did install the screensaver trough add/remove and put the .desktop file in the directory with all the other screensavers.
Only on my computer it seams to be /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers
note /usr/.

That .desktop file is very old and made for KDE3.
I have updated it and you can find it here:

This subject is outdated for KDE4 users.

To have ElectricSheep working on Kubuntu 9.10, read that:

 .desktop file for KDE4

Hi, the one I use for KDE4 (4.3.4 ATM) looks like this and works.

save to ~/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/electricsheep.desktop or system-wide.

Quote:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=electricsheep
Icon=kscreensaver
Type=Service
X-KDE-ServiceTypes=ScreenSaver
Actions=InWindow;Root;Setup;
X-KDE-Category=Fractals
Name=ElectricSheep

[Desktop Action Setup]
Exec=electricsheep-preferences
Name=Setup...

[Desktop Action InWindow]
Exec=electricsheep -window-id %w
Name=Display in specified window
<... localization stuff ...>
NoDisplay=true

[Desktop Action Root]
Exec=electricsheep -window-id %w
Name=Display in root window
<... localization stuff ...>
NoDisplay=true

I don't have a subdirectory ScreenSavers under ~/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ so I copied it to /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/electricsheep.desktop (as directed on the ElectricSheep forums) but I don't show an X-KDE-Category of Fractals in the Display > Screensaver dialog. Can you think of any reason why I'm not able to access the Sheep screensaver? (I'm also asking on the Sheep forums in case you dont know.)

I had gotten it working after installing xscreensavers but when I did a firesh install of Kubuntu 10.04 + KDE 4.5 I ended up with a system that flat out refused to even acknowledge that electricsheep was installed, even after putting your .desktop file in both the user and system locations.

While looking for a fix for why I wasn't able to use the Really Slick Screensavers either I stumbled on a different location to put your .desktop file: /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/electricsheep.desktop. Putting it there worked like a charm so if anyone else is running into the problem I had try putting this .desktop file there. It should do the trick.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
