Description:

This program is a MIDI metronome with KDE interface and based on the ALSA sequencer. The intended audience are musicians and music students. Like the solid, real metronomes it is a tool to keep the rhythm while playing musical instruments.

It uses MIDI for sound generation instead of digital audio, allowing low CPU usage, and very accurate timing thanks to the ALSA sequencer.

Features
* Easy to use KDE graphic user interface.
* MIDI only. Can be used with software- or external MIDI synthesizers.
* Based on the ALSA sequencer. Provides input and output ports.
* Highly customizable parameters.
* Optional built-in connection manager, it can be used with
external connection managers.
* External transport control: play - stop - continue commands, can
be controlled using DBUS or MIDI Realtime System messages.
* Custom rhythm patterns.

Changelog:

Changes in 0.10.1 (2012-05-28)
* Turkish translation by Server Acim
* docbook version update. Fixes bugs #3529410 and #3118766
* Drumstick 0.5 required
* Optional realtime priority for the MIDI input thread

Changes in 0.10.0 (2010-06-06)
* Custom patterns, with graphic editor and import/export as text (RFE
#2517833)
* Show banks, programs and note names from an instrument definition file
in .INS format
* Main window layout options: standard tool bar, hide action buttons
* New German translation, thanks to Rene Landert
* Updated Spanish, Czech and French translations

 shortcuts

Some shortcuts would be nice.. especially for 'play' and 'stop' :)

It's a bit annoying to grab the mouse all the time. The most comfortable would be to trigger both of them with space only.. what do you think?

 dbus commands only related to current PID?

 by janet on: Aug 11 2012

I just found out how to use the dbus commands for kmetronome. Alas the PID number is attached to the qdbus entry so it is not possible to use the dbus commands for autostarting kmetronome.

The goal here is to start kmetronome with autoplay. So I created the command "kmetronome && qdbus net.sourceforge.kmetronome-24638 /kmetronome/MainWindow_1 net.sourceforge.kmetronome.play" - but this only works with the current session because of the PID related dbus commands.

Is there a way to use dbus for kmetronome independent from the current session?

try this Bash script:

$ cat kmetronome-autoplay.sh
#!/bin/bash
kmetronome &
sleep 1s
SERVICE="net.sourceforge.kmetronome-$(pidof kmetronome)"
qdbus $SERVICE / play

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
