LaptopConfig provides a qt-gui for accessing features of laptops like hotkeys, acpi-events, display-brightness and powersaving in a platform independent way, so it is possible to run it on different laptops test.

Some compilation fixes and fixes for the 2.4 kernel were made and support was added for the 2.4 kernel's cpufreqd.conf format.

Every time I click on the download link I end up at Microsoft.com. Not cute at all.

haven't been able to really test all the settings yet, but it looks pretty good to me already. One thing is that i'd rather have this under System Administration in KControl than as a seperate program - I believe I have read something like this before but can't find it right now. Actually it might make real sense to keep the dependencies for this low and make it usable for the GNOME and alternate folks as well, though. :-/

On thing:
I went to your site with the intention to fetch the sources and build my own .deb - which is a bit of work and iexplains why I did not test it before. I was of course pleased to see a .deb readily available. A simple click on "download" would have tought me that as well - but maybe a little remark that there is a download site behind "download" with rpm and deb instead of just the source would bring this to other's attention as well.
Alternatively you could add rpm, deb and the others as seperate downloads here and make sure than anyone as stupid as me sees what's available ;)

I'm the author of LaptopConfig. Thank you for your interest. There are already .deb and .rpm files, but only for Debian unstable and a really ugly rpm-build (Fedora Core 1, but should work on other distris as well). I don't have the time to maintain packages for all available distris all by myself.
I thought about making it a kcontrol-module, but I really like to keep dependencys low and don't want to keep Gnome users out, so this may be an option for the future. If you have wishes or feature-request, let me know. You can reach me at mmllr@users.sourceforge.net

Have a look at http://ltpconf.sourceforge.net for the homepage of the project.

Best regards,

Markus Mueller

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
