Minimum required   KDE 3.4.x
Downloads:  3457
Submitted:  Mar 3 2006
Updated:  Mar 31 2006

Description:

Makes it easy to backup your DVDs from your home TV-DVD-Recorder to your PC.

Requires:
- Kommander =>1.1
- lsdvd
- mplayer [has to support dvd]
- mencoder
- dvd+rw-format (optional)
- file (optional)
- convert [imagemagick] (optional; then no previews)

FYI: No 1:1 copy of protected DVDs possible.

Changelog:

DVD Copy 0.7.2:
- DVD Media Library [for caching all read DVDs]
(DVD Library Manager is planned)
- additional check if convert is missing [I forgot this check in previous versions; issue with black previews]
- shows now longest track
- added some mplayer log output
- some minor changes

DVD Copy 0.7.1:
- copy of angles possible now
- preview issues
- workaround for those having mplayer < 1.0pre7 without PNG compression
- checks if dvd_read/mplayer cannot handle IFO files and stops working on previews

DVD Copy 0.7.0.1:
- FIX: background monitoring of copy process for 'slower' DVD drives
- FIX: if DVD not mounted, copy still shows growing of target size
- FIX: again compatible to Kommander 1.1 (count function error)

DVD Copy 0.7:
- GUI changes and additional checks for better understanding
- info button for each preview displayed in preview pics
- play button to each preview pic
- copy processes are backgrounded
- copy can be stopped now
- titels with length of 1sec. sould be displayed now
- moved log window to other page
- improved cleaning of tmp-files
- FIX: reading/playing titles with leading 0
- FIX: displaying sizes (not read any longer with dvd_read)

DVD Copy:
- titles now must have a minimum length of only 15sec. to be displayed
- title preview can display up to 32 titles (enough for DL-DVD I guess)
- title previews are now cached if DVD not changes
- preview pictures are now taken at I-frame having a much better quality (untested with NTSC)
- fixed playing and previewing titles with leeding zero

 Previews

The previews on the right only display a black screen on my test DVD. Like the posts above, this is indeed a very interesting Kommander script. Looking forward to future releases.

What is your mplayer version?

Getting the previews tells mplayer to seek to 50sec. from movie start position. (option -ss 50)

Try this:
mplayer dvd://01 -frames 4 -ss 50 -nosound -noframedrop -idx -vo png:z=4 < /dev/null

What is mplayer saying? Any errors?
Might be, your mplayer needs '-ss 50s' as this is documented; my works without the 's'.
If this is the case I can fix that in the frontend.
I also saw problems with the leading 0 at the title; try it without, as lsdvdread-lib has problems with some sufisticated DVD Navigation structures in combination with the 0.

Did this help?

sthom

By the way, black previews can happen. The tool greps a picture from by 45 sec. after movie start, for shorter ones frame no. 15, If this is a black one ...

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
