I don't find it redundant. Maybe it is even good to have some competition to choose from. Or do dislike the option of having a choice?

Having useful competition is a good thing, I agree. However, MyPasswordSafe doesn't even work - it's full of bugs - if, you can get it to compile at all, that is. It seems the author never tested it and it hasn't been updated for months. PwManager is a much better app.

Do kwallet and PWmanager support Password Safe safes? That's the whole purpose of MyPasswordSafe, to be compatible with Password Safe safes.

 Bad package

 by h1k3r on: Jul 12 2004

Score 50%

The latest package would not compile without major tweaking of several of the source files. After tweaking and compiling, I found numerous bugs. It's clear that the author had never tested this app before offering it for download.

I realise that there is a binary available for download. However, I would never run a binary on my computer that was compiled by a total stranger as I am not sure that the I am running binary was compiled from the same source as that which is available for download.

Why does this app depend on Boost? This is really unnecessary.

The author of this app should remove it from kde-apps until he has done sufficient updating of the source and testing of the entire package and binary. There is absolutely no reason for an app to be released with bugs in the source. The author is supposed to know the code, and, if you know the code, you know if there are bugs in the source - and how to erradicate them.

At present, this package is a complete waste of time to download and compile.

Apparently you tried the development branch, and it is called such because it IS the development branch. Expect bugs and incomplete functionality. One thing I made certain though, is that it won't trash your passwords.

What bugs did you find? You need to report the bugs you find, that way no one else will run into the trouble you had.

Or contribute a patch!

Nope, I downloaded the source from http://www.semanticgap.com/myps/release/

True, but, having Boost doesn't fix the hundreds of errors I am still getting.
It seems there are lots of syntaxt errors in the source code.
Has anyone else been able to get this to compile?

In the Makefile, change the line:

export BOOST_DIR=$(HOME)/src/boost-1.30.2

to point to the directory that you untarred Boost and then try again.

2004 - 07 - 27: This app still has a lot of bugs. The source code still takes much work to bet it to compile. If the author would just get rid of the Boost dependency, I would work with him to fix all the bugs I have found.

I have downloaded and compiled hundreds of apps, including encryption/decryption/security apps, and this is the first time I have ever seen an app being dependent on Boost. The more dependencies an app has, the harder it is to compile/debug and the more problems an end user will encounter.

I followed the above advice and this app still won't compile. The problem is in the source code, not the Boost dependency. Get rid of the Boost dependency and I will assist you in making this app workable.

Could you please take the "Boost" requirement out of this app's source code?

No one wants to download 5Mb of Boost software for the sole purpose of compiling your 250kb source code, especially when there are tons of apps on the internet that do the same job without the Boost requirement.

Otherwise, you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
