Description:

This is my interpretation of the "famous" cellphone-game Snake, I hope you enjoy it! You need to have the package python-qt4 installed (as well as Python itself, of course). To use it, start a terminal, cd into the directory you saved it into and type "python snake.py". thats it!

have fun!

P.S.:
- please tell me everything you think could be improved!
- And I need people who could help me with the "artwork", as you see. So if you feel comfortable with an image editing software and have some minutes of free time, please try to improve the images (and just send them to me)!!! Thanks :)

Changelog:

#1:
-bugfix: pushing buttons too fast doesn't lead to loss of game anymore
-changed size of snake-elements so that it became a little more difficult ;)

#2:
- added highscore information

#3:
- now you can choose between three levels

#4:
- a short countdown will give you some seconds to prepare :)

#5:
- now you can pause the game by pressing the "space"-bar
-changed speed of slow and medium levels

#6:
- not really a bugfix. but performance should be much better now! especially in the fast level, you should see that it's a constant speed now

#7:
- Everything is now working with Qt4

#8:
- The speed should be more stable even in long games

#9:
- the snake is composed of pictures right now, looks like it is opening and shutting its mouth
- little bugfix
- works fine on netbook-like screen sizes!

 Weird

by losinggeneration on: Oct 30 2009

Wow, I always thought snake-like games were popular on computers first (where I've always played them.) It wasn't till your comment of it being a "'famous' cellphone-game" that I decided to look into it. Sure enough, that's where it's attributed to gaining massive popularity, even though it had been around for close to 20 years before Nokia made it a standard game on their phones.* Anyways good job and all that (it's a pretty easy/fun game to make and get used to game coding techniques.)

I remember, in the original versions of DOS (pre-Win3.1), when I'd played Snakes all the time as a kid. There was also a game w/ gorillas throwing exploding bananas, though I've yet to wrap my head around that one. :)
