Description:

VariCAD is a compact 3D/2D CAD system for mechanical engineering. In addition to standard tools for 3D modeling and 2D drafting, the CAD system provides support for parameters, geometric constraints, tools for shells, pipelines, sheet metal unbending and crash tests, assembly support, libraries of standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN) and symbols, mechanical part calculations and tools for working with bills of materials (BOMs) and title blocks. VariCAD supports STEP, STL, IGES, DWG and DXF file formats.




Changelog:

The latest technical enhancements focus on further productivity gains. They include geometric constraints among entire solids, improvements in geometric constraints among solid elements, advanced tools for working with Boolean trees, improved DWG import, etc.

The only problem about it , is the "trial".. Linux + commercial software?.. no way.. :) I found a free alternative.. by the way the idea is great.

Price isn't the real problem, even RMS agree with this ( http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html ), the problem is the (non-free)license.

I am very interested to know what the free alternative that you found is?

I am interested in Linux OSS CADCAM and CNC software.

Linux CNC is a great software CNC controller.
