Description:

ultra shody mockup for amarok improvement
first screenshot - original
second screenshot - mockup
features:
1. combine the start/pause buttons -
the icon on the start button to change to
the pause button.
2. anlarge the start/pause buttob - it's
the most commonly used feature,
so according to fitt's (pitts? ) law it should be the largest button.
3. add a "record" button - i.e. a streamripper shortcut..

4. not shown: a streaming media
station chooser (similar to iTunes (tm) ) -
before the amarok site went down, i've
posted a message about it in amarok's
forum, and was given a reply that it's
illegal to use reuse shoutcast's directory.
therefore - why not use xiph.org
http://dir.xiph.org/
or
google stations?
http://directory.google.com/Top/Arts/Music/Sound_Files/MP3/Streaming/Stations/

(and maybe enable a 3rd party plugin..)

----

feel free to take those idea's and elaborate
on them.
i'm a crappy "artist", so maybe someone
more talented than myself will do a better
job..

-------------
theme: debian sid, kde 3.3.1, comix theme, gartoons icons.

First, I am not in any way an official voice for the amaroK team, I just hang out with them and help out when I can ;) Please people, comment on this one. And PLEASE describe why you vote bad. Voting bad without bothering to describe why doesn't exactly do anyone any good.

1. combine the start/pause buttons - the icon on the start button to change to the pause button.

Quite possibly the single most requested feature apart from cover saving (which we're unable to provide legally)

2. anlarge the start/pause buttob - it's the most commonly used feature, so according to fitt's (pitts? ) law it should be the largest button.

Fitts' law, actually :) It would be a Good Thing for purely usability related issues, but it is unfortunately not quite so good here, simply because what we've got to work with is a toolbar button. However, it might be possible to add text to the button (so that it reads either play or pause, depending on what icon is shown).

3. add a "record" button - i.e. a streamripper shortcut..

That is not exactly legal... This would be the prime candidate for a plugin, but that's discussed bellow.

4. not shown: a streaming media station chooser (similar to iTunes (tm) ) - before the amarok site went down, i've posted a message about it in amarok's forum, and was given a reply that it's illegal to use reuse shoutcast's directory.
therefore - why not use xiph.org

The xiph dir does indeed seem like a pleasant option, but the problem is now, how do they manage the streams on there? It seems however that they only list specific streams that are made using icecast. Maybe a stream browser could be based on plugable backends? Need the devs on that one ;)

(and maybe enable a 3rd party plugin..)

A scripting based plugin system is under consideration, however the problem is that so far the scripting languages that are avaliable in KDE are somewhat lacking, in one way or the other.
Until that gets sorted out, resort to DCOP for all your scripting purposes; amaroK has a very large amount of DCOP function available, for adding media and play control and such.

Pardon? I've already got that button :P
Meny->Configure Toolbars
Add the "Play/Pause"-button.

My own little "improvement":
http://www.angelfire.com/rpg2/finalfantasyvi/amarok.html

The search bar take lot of space, move the playlist buttons there.
Don't mind the Context meny, that is just something I mixed with :P

(It looks a little bit ugly now, I'm too lazy to remove uneccesary things and add...

but imho it's a bit better than the current desing. I dont like the current desing too much, its not really KDE-ish. esp the fact you can't really alter and move the several parts of the interface, while that should/could be possible. like change the toolbars (yes, you can change 1 of them, but not the others) and being able to move them.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
