Plasmoid Script

A simple plasmoid that lets you put a web page on your desktop. It is very useful with the iphone version of many web sites.

For example if you use facebook often, instead of visiting it in a web browser, just set the Web Snippet's url to the iphone version of facebook and leave it on your desktop. Now a quick summary is always open. You can see updates to the news feed and respond to messages without ever visiting facebook in your browser.

This is useful for facebook, Gmail, and many other sites.

To use this plasmoid, install it, and add it to your desktop or dashboard. Then click the configure button (looks like a wrench) and enter the URL of the site you want to be displayed (one example is "http://iphone.facebook.com"). That's all! If you want to reload you can right click on the page.

Feel free to do whatever you want with this code.

 Open links in external window

by ivlivs on: Dec 25 2009

Good work, I find very useful to check my e-mail.
It would be still more interesting if you could open a link in a full browser window when needed (mabye by middle clicking).

I'm glad you guys are using/liking this widget! I hope it continues to be useful, and all of the comments on this thread are great ideas which would be great to implement.

Unfortunately I honestly don't have time to continue developing this widget at the moment. If anyone wants to pick up where I left off: go for it! That's what open source is all about.

Best of luck!

 Make use of user-agent

If this plasmoid can make use of user agent just like dolphin browser on android or opera for desktop, there will be no need for manually finding the mobile version because the web server automatically changes the version of web for you based on your user agent.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
