SoundKonvertor - using LAME "Additional Encoder Arguments"

Application: soundKonverter - May 4 2011
Question:Hi there

I am using SoundKonvertor V1.0.0 RC3 on opensuse 11.4 with KDE 4.6.0
I currently have all my music stored in the flac format and like to re-encode it as mp3 for my portable music player. To do this I like to set LAME to use a quality of 2 and a variable bit rate using preset V5 or V6. However when I enter the settings in the "Additional Encoder Arguments" box they do not seem to take, I have tried the following;

/usr/bin/lame -q 2 --vbr-new -V 6 %i %o

/usr/bin/lame -q2 --vbr-new -V6 %i %o

-q2 --vbr-new -V6 %i %o

-q 2 --vbr-new -V 6 %i %o

but none seem to over-ride the settings in SoundKonvertor, if I chose a preset it appears to ignore my additional arguments, and if I select "user defined" preset then it appears that the quality slider appears to over-ride my -V 6 argument. I had trouble in KDE3 getting this to work as I wanted but I cannot seem to get it in the KDE4 version of the program, am I doing something wrong here? Please help

Answer:The additional encoder arguments aren't intended to overwrite the settings you can choose in soundkonverter. I'm not sure at the moment if that makes sense. But I really should make it possible overwrite the arguments you cannot see.

What you want can be accomplished by:
1. selecting lame as encoder
2. selecting a user defined preset
3. choosing your desired quality
4. using "-q 2" as additional arguments

--vbr-new is already the default vbr mode in soundkonverter. And now that I had a look at it, I will make -q 2 default, too.

You can see the command soundkonverter used to convert a file in the log viewer.

Thanks very much for the clarification, just a suggestion, could the settings we put into LAME via SoundKonvertor be loaded into a "parameters" box so they could be edited or over-ridden, I know that the interfacing with LAME is only a small element of the program but it seems logical?

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
