I used daisy as a replacement of the panel (As a linear dock). The only reason is because all I need is:
1. kile (Latex editor)
2. Konsole
3. Firefox/Opera
4. Amarok.

And for anything else, there is always the "expose windows" effect which is more nicer than the task manager!

All I miss is the system tray, which I hate with a vengeance (Doesn't any one get pissed off when apps minimize to the system tray?), so it is ok.

But I am waiting for the task manager integration. I am getting bored with the current release! :-)

 Problem with launcher

Hi, great plasmoid. I seem to be having a problem with my launchers though. On some launchers, for some reason, after I close out of the program it always attempts to run whatever is in the "name" field of the launcher. So I'll have an error pop up like "cannot find Firefox Web Browser" or something like that.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Did a little more poking around, it seems to happen whenever the program launched exits with an error status (e.g., nonzero return status).

That sure makes things more clear. I believe it is related to the way the program is launched using krun. This only happens with the firefox launcher, correct?
Will look into fixing it for this next release.
Regards, and thank you for helping out in fixing this issue.

Actually it happens with any program that exits with an error code. For instance, it happens with my nxclient launcher if I cancel out of the login box (exit status 1).

I looked at your code, but it looks like the problem is krun::runCommand(). The documentation says it uses the executable name for an error message if the command can't be run, apparently exiting with an error code triggers the message. I don't know if there's a way around that.

 Revolutionized my desktop!

by crystalbruce on: Jul 28 2009

Hi there!

I really love the Daisy plasmoid! I have always wanted a very simplistic desktop that was unique but still nice to look at. My desktop consists of Daisy in the middle (circular dock - what a great idea!) with a hidden panel. That's all! I uploaded two pictures to show off to my friends:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2262777&l=609670fff0&id=501843313
and
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2262778&l=c183f53a30&id=501843313

I found it more useful to have krunner as the application in the middle of Daisy.

When I have programs docked in the system tray, Daisy doesn't recognize that they are open. Do you plan to add this type of notification in future releases?

Also, for whatever reason, I can't seem to replace the trash can. I'm an avid shift+delete-r so I don't have any use for a trash can.

When I hover over the trash can, I get a mini-trash can icon in the corner of the bigger trash can. I think this happened with all the default icons, but I changed many of the launchers and icons. Is there a way to add the mini ones? Or is there a way to remove it from the trash can?

I am hoping that Daisy will help me be more productive. It is helpful to have my most used and favourite applications just one click away! Thank you for this!

To a taskmanager, a program running but hidden (minimized to system tray) does not exist. Daisy behaves as a task manager for the launchers that are available on the dock.
Currently Daisy does not come with system tray integration, but yes this will change in future releases, it's a TODO.

The option of removing the trash plugin is currently only available when on linear dock role, that will be changed and that option will also be added to circular dock role.

The mini icons that appear on top of launchers are called "action launchers", right-click on the launcher > "Edit launcher..." and configure the "action launchers" there. The trash plugin "action launcher" is used to empty the trashcan. This "action launcher" from the trash plugin is not configurable.

I hope to improve it and make it a lot better than it currently is, with the help of everyone that wishes to contribute. Current releases are only alphas, more options will be added and changes will be done.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. :)
Regards.

Hi there.
That is correct, the amount of launchers for circular dock role is currently limited to 9 launchers, in linear dock role the limit is 30 launchers. This may change in future versions of Daisy to allow the inclusion of more launchers for circular dock role.

The 9 launchers in circular dock role can be extended, by using "action launchers". Right-click on a launcher > "Edit launcher..." and select enable action launcher, there a new task can be added do that same launcher. After configuring the launcher, a small icon will be displayed on top of the launcher when hovering over it.
Regards.

I think you use (K)Ubuntu. When its right you can add the following lines at your sources.list:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/samrog131/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/samrog131/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Then type in a Console:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install plasma-widget-daisy

Right click on your Desktop, add widget and search for daisy and click add. Thats it.

Works fine for me in Ubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.3

Hi there.
To be able to compile Daisy from source a few development packages are needed. What system are you running?
The packages needed for compilation on Kubuntu are named:
kdebase-workspace-dev
kdelibs5-dev

There's also the possibility of installing a binary package, which eliminates the need for compilation.
Regards, Lechio.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
