 splashscreen generator

I would like to do a similar feature for ksplash.

I don't think ksplash can use svg files.

Does anyone know an easy way to generate a png picture that shows a panel (like a plasmoid background) from a plasma theme ?

My first idea was to modify background.svg with sed to make it looks like a panel and convert it to png. But background.svg files are too differents from a theme to another.

I think the best solution is to create a based on plasma (or libqt-svg, I don't know) and save the picture in a png file.

If someone know how to do that, I am interested.

If it really works (I haven't tested yet), it's the best improvement on KDE-look! With the Stasks, naturally ;)

 path

just a hint:
with kde4-config --localprefix you can find out the actual user config dir (its not always ~/.kde)

i dont know if there is an easy way to determinate kdms config dir tho. (in my case it was /usr/share/apps/kdm)

Do you know a clean way to extract a value from an rc file ? (like plasmarc)

My solution is not very good.

I am not sur it always work

this will only work if locate is installed and up-to-date... but yes, it should be fail-proof...

The path detection works like a charme... also the added feedback "found blabla" is nice.

as for the rc files.. i would do it the same way... using sed and grep, maybe someone knows a more clean way.

Awesome idea! I haven't tried it yet, as I like my current theme, but up-voted just for thinking of it. If I could up-vote twice for thinking of AND making it, I would. :D

Thank you :)

Installs flawlessly on Kubuntu 8.10 Neon (4.2.2).

I do have one issue though. There is a very small gap between the left elements and the center elements of the background.svgz, maybe 1 or 2 pixels wide.

This is a really cool idea! Thanks for scripting this!

Ok, I fear it depend on screen size. I will try to fix that for everybody.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
