This program generates a splash screen for kde 4 from your current wallpaper, icon theme and plasma theme.

build-essential kdelibs5-dev g++

-download source KsplashThemeGenerator.tar.gz
-go to your download directory
-extract tar: tar -xvvf KsplashThemeGenerator.tar.gz
-go to the directory: cd KsplashThemeGenerator
-execute: cmake .
-execute: make
-execute ./KsplashThemeGenerator
select MyKsplashTheme:
System settings > Appearence > Splash Screen > MyKsplashTheme > Apply

Known issues:
-With multiple screens the splashcreen displays the same wallpaper on all screens (Ksplashx limitation).
-problems with some icon themes.

If you want contribute to this software, the source code is on gitorious: http://gitorious.org/kstartthemegenerator/ksplashthemegenerator

-works with kde 4.3

-works with colorized theme (eg. Aya, Atelier ...)
-fix error:
(32100)/ KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from "/var/tmp/kdecache-aldo/ksycoca4"
QObject::connect: Cannot connect QWidget::destroyed() to (null)::_k_x11FilterDestroyed()

-reflection in the right direction :)
-start menu icon instead of kde icon
-support for theme with small icons (not perfect: icons are smooth)

using Kuduntu 9.04 and trying to install the application following your instructions but at the "make" step I've got a message "file make not found".
How can I install the application?

you need developement packages, for instance:
kdelibs5-dev g++ build-essential

and reexecute cmake

it is possible I forget packages.

I'm sorry for resending the previous message. It creates theme.

However to make themes more customizable I suggest you to change kde icon, set in KsplashThemeGenerator.cpp, with "start-here-kde". What do tou think about?

I agree with you, with start-here-kde, it use the start menu icon. (it can be different than the kde icon)

The program part that generates animation need some love. For example, I come to realize that the reflection is not in the right direction :)

The next Ubuntu release will use plymouth for the boot splash screen.

After a Kdm and a Ksplash generator, I would like to make a Plymouth theme generator.

My goal is to make a clean and personalized boot sequence. When I turn on my computer, the first thing I want to see is not a black screen with white texts, not a logo of a company, but my personal wallpaper and a boot animation that looks like my desktop theme.

 integrate this!

Shouldn't this be an integral part of KDE? The KDM and splashscreen settings could have something like 'create theame based on current desktop' button or something.

BTW how does this work if you have multiple activities?

"Shouldn't this be an integral part of KDE? The KDM and splashscreen settings could have something like 'create theame based on current desktop' button or something."

For kspash:

Imho, it must be transparent for the user:
-An entry named "Automatic" in the setting panel of ksplash.
-The theme "automatic" actualized at logout.

The current source code needs reworking to build only modifyied part of the theme.

I will do that when I have the time.

For kdm:

It is more complicated.
Kdm setting needs to be done with root privileges. I can't be automatically actualized. I think your suggestion of a button in the kdm settings panel is the best, but I don't know how to do that.

"BTW how does this work if you have multiple activities?"

I create a Plasma::Wallpaper with the settings of the current screen saved in plasma-appletsrc.

So, it uses the activity of the screen.

One problem is that I use the plasma-appletsrc file. This file is not saved in realtime but after a delay.

So, if you change your activity/wallpaper/plasma theme, execute KsplashThemeGenerator, it may use a previous setting.

Cool, looking forward to you having time ;-)

Either way, thanks a lot, I've used this now to create a nice set of themes for KDM and splash - basically a red version of Air :D

If you need anything to get this into KDE, let me know!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
