Depends on  Kommander

Submitted:  May 10 2009

Description:

get_iplayer allows UK users to download BBC tv and radio programs.

For get_iplayer script, visit http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/

As well as Kommander and get_iplayer, this depends on:
- xterm
- ffmpeg
- libmp3lame*
- libxvid*

(*using default post-processing ffmpeg switches; you can set your own if you wish)

This GUI is a stab at implementing a front end. Many features are omitted. The get_iplayer script is more fully featured than its possible to squeeze into a simple GUI like this.

Please be sure to check out Zek's great remix of this GUI at:
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Get+iPlayer+GUI+Remixed?content=109962

Changelog:

1.3 Fixed category list bug, added detailed prog info on each row

1.21 Fix for GetList function

1.2
include/exclude category selection
default channel on type switch now a setting
changed previously duff ffmpeg default switches (whoops)
dependencies check on startup

1.1
ffmpeg switches now editable
added category filter textbox

Hi

Tried your app but when I have selected a program to download and hit the download button. No console window opens so it does not download and the selected download disappears from the download window. I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty. Any idea why?

Thanx

Hi

I think you'll have to install xterm on Kubuntu.

Thanks for your alert - I'll add xterm to the list of dependencies here.

 2.16 get_iplayer issue

hi Greg

Just to let you know 2.16 of get_iplayer is out, but something has changed meaning that the 'get list' function isn't working properly anymore and spins off into an infinite loop.

cheers

Zek

Hi Zek

Thanks for the heads up but mine (running on ubuntu 9.04) is still working OK under 2.16.

I'm truly honoured by your remix by the way, great stuff man. You made it fly.

hmmm same setup.. wonder as to why thats happening this end.. have had to change the way the list is generated here.

love the search method you have.

Glad you like my take on the player. Been quite fun doing this, although my scripting is a bit slap dash.. only started for the first time a few weeks back;) will be neater for my next project.

cheers

Yep you're right. It seems that now there's no final \n in the output. I fixed by adding one after the s=exec(...) statement in the GetList script.

This script doesn't work in Ubuntu Karmic. I just get "failed to create dialog".

 The wrong file is uploaded

In the download file, there is simply an executable script with these contents:

kmdr-executor "/home/greg/Programming/Kommander/GUI 4 GetIplayer/ipdl.kmdr"

Obviously, we need the ipdl.kmdr file, not the wrapper script!

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm trying to get the GUI running. The GUI appears on my screen but I can't seem to get it running as there is no warning to tell me that it can't see the path correctly - it would be good to know if it can detect the flvstreamer path correctly.

You've given us the latest script, that's great.

I think it is fantastic what you are doing.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
