Minimum required   KDE 4.x

Description:

This applet is discontinued!! Since I'm now working directly on the KDE's Device Notifier I won't add any new feature to this one. I'll fix serious bugs, though.

This is an applet that lets you mount, umount, open your devices.
It has a capacity bar to show the free space, and avoids the ugly window that pops up when you open a device with more than one action in the standard Device Notifier.
It can show all the devices instead of the removable ones only and can do the automount.

I hope you like it!

WARNING! With KDE previous than 4.3 and dark plasma themes you won't be able to read the labels cause the font is dark too.

Changelog:

1.1.1
-shows errors on mounting if any and after the mount the icon changes
-fixed the bug of some .dektop files not readed
-fixed a bug with the show/hide system

1.1
-when a mount is done the icon changes like when you eject something
-the capacity bar grows with the widget
-various code liftings

1.0.2
-added option utf8 when mounting fat volumes

1.0.1
-fixed a regression that caused plasma to freeze

1.0
-added a capacity bar
-added the possibility to lay out the actions in a row instead of in column
-fixed a crash with automount and audio or blanck cd
-maybe other things that I don't remember :p. Find them out by yourself!

0.4
-now the devices can be hidden as you can do in dolphin
-added a button to simply mount the devices as you can umount them

0.3
-added an option to hide the not removable devices
-an option to change the icon instead of show the popup on the insertion of a new device
-a bugfix

0.2
-added a margin in the left of the actions to distinguish them from the devices
-added an option for the automount
-added an option that makes the dialog hide after some time after the insertion of a removable device
-fixed a bug with the scroll
-better code

0.1
initial version

 non-removable devices

by Kirilo on: Jun 11 2009

Score 50%

I love this plasmoid, thank you very much!

However, it doesn't show my partitions, only the removable devices appear (doesn't matter whether I check the "hide" option or not).
That doesn't bother me, I just wanted to draw your attention on it.
I use KDE 4.3beta2, Qt 4.5.1.

are your partitions mounted via /etc/fstab?
because i noticed that if they are in it the plasmoid doesn't show them.
i have 4 partitions, but, as you can see in the screenshot, only two are listed. the others (/ and /home/) are not.
i'll see why it does this.

Yes, it's /home and / that I'm missing (I don't have other partitions, but I'll try out on my other machine, where I have a Windows partition).

 Merge?

Boy that's great - should be merged with the default KDE4 device manager and the automount device manager and than with options to en/disable automount and en/disble non-removable devices.

 Debug devicemanager problem

 by doktor5000 on: Jun 15 2009

Since some time i can't add this plasmoid anymore, i get the following error message when adding to desktop or running with plasmoidviewer:

Unknown Widget

This Object could not be created for
the following reason:
Could not find requested component:
plasma_applet_devicemanager

Distro is mandriva 2009.1 with kde 4.2.2. and it still works like a charm on another box where it built against kde 4.2.4 and qt 4.5.1.

Do you have any idea how to debug this?

did you recently upgrade kde or qt?
sometimes when a big upgrade occurs the plasmoids need to be recompiled.
try to recompile it

No, no kde or qt upgrade involved. Already recompiled 2 times, no change.
Already tried with a newly created user, still no luck.

Shouldn't there be a way to find out why exactly the plasmoid does not work anymore?

The only error message i see is when running it with plasmoidviewer, i gives this:

Couldn't resolve property: linearGradient6699

about 15 of them, with differing numbers.
Does this mean anything?

Well, nevermind.
After running kbuildsycoca4 before adding the plasmoid, everything works now again as it should. Don't know why this was necessary, as this is done on every boot.
But now it works again.

And please, keep up the good work :)

 Text color

by thenexor on: Jun 23 2009

I have a problem with the readability of the text, using some dark plasma themes like the default "Oxygen" one and "Elegance": the titles are ok, in white or bright grey, but the devices' names and actions are too dark to read.

The "QuickAccess" plasmoid for example uses appropriate colors, and uses the same background.
I have Fedora 11 and KDE 4.2.3.

 Plasma crash when adding DM

by mirzaD on: Jun 23 2009

Score 50%

I am using Kubuntu KDE 4.3 beta2 and since i cant add device manager to desktop or panel.
When i try to do so plasma crashes. I reported bug on
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197606
and there you can find a backtrace, maybe it can do some good.

just to know, does it crash even when you add the official device notifier?

anyway that backtrace isn't so useful. there are too many ??. probably the package from the PPA is splitted and doesn't contain the debug infos. see if there is another package or compile the plasmoid manually

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
