 question

Can I with this software encode files that are on my disk? i.e. a 320 kbps mp3 to a 128 kbps one or mp3 to ogg.

It's using external commandline tools to convert, so yes, you can.
You must define a new encoder, e.g. using the Perl Audio converter (pacpl).
Theroretically you can convert any file format if you have a commandline tool.

It's working perfectly.

Config for lame:

lame -h -b 128 --tt %{title} --ta %{artist} --tl %{albumtitle} --ty %{year} --tn %{number} --tg %{genre} %f %o

And config for file location:

~/KAudioCreator/%{albumartist}/%{albumtitle}/%{number}-%{title}.%{extension}

Thanks, with this I can replace the old Qt3 SoundKonverter.

 it works

It works as advertised, ad least for cd ripping/encoding, and it's pretty good at this.

Some thoughts:
- it's not obvious how to set the folder where you want to save the files.
- there should be an easier way to edit the lame command line. Or it uses the audiocd kioslave settings? Some kind of visual feedback would be nice, anyway.
- I don't see the need of a separate jobs tab. A notification or an OSD would be better, IMHO.
- is some transcoding feature planned? (like flac -> mp3)

Anyway, nice work ;)

I agree that the commanline editing is not easy. Maybe I try to find a better way sometimes.

Transcoding is possible. You need to define an encoder with a commandline tool that is able to do what you want and use it with the "Encode from disk"-option.
In theory you can convert almost everything this way, mp3 to ogg, jpg to png....

For example i have a commandline "mogrify -resize %{comment} %f" for resizing jpgs.

 Another problem

It's messing up the "spanish symbols" in the tags

Hmm, I can reproduce it. A fix may take a moment as I have no clue about locale stuff (yet).

Looks like the problem is only with lame, the tags are written as id3v1 with utf8-encoding. There is no way to tell lame wich encoding it should use, it uses some iconv-conversion internally. Depending on the player it works or not as there is no standard for id3v1. You can try to force id3v2 with the -add-id3v2 option.

What exactly goes wrong? Works for me. Do you have write access to the new location?

Thank you for reply.

I use OpenSUSE11.1 and kaudiocrreator-1.2.80.svn987101-2.14.

I want to put encoded file to /data/%{extension}

/data <-- which is nfs mount and option is (rw, hard, intr, timeo=30,
addr=192.168.100.x, nfsvers=3,
proto=tcp,mountproto=udp)

In case Encoded File Location
"~/%{extension}/%{albumartist}/%{albumtitle}/%{number}-%{title}.%{extension}" is success.

but,

"/data/%{extension}/%{albumartist}/%{albumtitle}/%{number}-%{title}.%{extension}" is fail.

cp command in console is success,
so, permission is correctly.

$ cp aaa.txt /data/flac/ is success!

In KDE3.x, KAudioCreator can put encoded file to /data/%{extension}, but
in KDE4, KAudioCreator fail.

Thank you.

Hmm, testing with your mount options works for me.

I have openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3.2 and my self compiled binary.

Any error messages?

I think that KAudioCreator can't treat UTF-8 character PATH correctly.

If save to dir path using [a-z0-9]+ , KAudioCreator work well.

But if save to dir path using UTF-8 character(which is 2 byte ),
KAudioCreator fail to save.

I tried with local 2 byte characters - that works.
Over nfs 3 not. but with nfs 4 utf8 seems to work. So I guess its nfs 3 having problems with utf8.
Also, I found no way to set the encoding to use with kprocess.
In svn is added that the current system environment is set for the processes, maybe this helps in some cases (but not in this).

Can you test it with nfs 4?

Both can rip CDs. ;-)

It's a matter of personal taste.
KAudioCreator can encode files from harddisk, what Audex can not afaik.
Otoh Audex can fetch cover images.
Of course there are more smaller differences, kaudiocreator is just one of my hobbies now.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
