Updated:  Oct 20 2013

Description:

This is a plasmoid to show the events and todos from Akonadi resources (KOrganizer, Birthdays etc.).
With a google resource also Google calendar items can be shown.
Also possible with a CalDAV resource.
A facebook resource is also available.

Incidences can be filtered, added, edited, deleted via context menu.

Needs KDE 4.6 to compile and
you need a working Akonadi.
I suggest using 4.7 and your done.

Thanks to the authors of todolist, public transport, rtm.

Some rpm for openSUSE can be found here:
Now in KDE:Unstable:Playground

There is also an ebuild in gentoo-overlay or so.

Feel free to send translations, feature requests.

Development has moved:

- filter for collections instead of resources (reconfigure filter necessary)

0.6.90 (0.7 rc)
- use kincindenceeditor if available
- delete incidences via menu
- fix bug with wrong mouse pointer position (wrong incidence selected)

0.6 adds autogrouping and filtering

 Problem with trash widget

by janet on: Sep 13 2009

Score 50%

When I have the eventlist plasmoid on my desktop (folderview mode) the trash widget doesn't keep its size! After a relogin it always is shrinked to about 48x48. When I unlock the widgets and hover over the trash it expands to the size I want. When I remove the eventlist plasmoid from the desktop the trash remembers its size.

 BUGS

by janet on: Sep 13 2009

Score 50%

Your widget has very strange effects on the plasma desktop: it causes two bugs ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206395 & https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206396) AND SOLVES another: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199028

It hinders the icons on the folderview desktop to wander up and produce a scrollbar on the desktop - but alas at the same time it hinders the taskmanager in the panel to expand to full width and likewise the trash widget.

What did you do? Maybe this could help solving the bug with the wandering icons and the scrollbar completely. But the non-expanding taskmanager is very annoying.

To be honest - I have no clue. The init/layout code is almost identical to public transport.
I dont see any special code that has influence on the whole desktop layout??
I can reproduce the problem with the trash widget, the taskbar works ok for me.
I have setup an git repository:
http://github.com/geflei/plasmoid-eventlist/
as I'm away now for some days.

I never tested the public transport widget because I have no need for it. But maybe it causes the same issues (cures the wandering icons & the scrollbar on the desktop but causes the mini size of the trash and the non-expanding taskmanager). The latter you will probably only notice if you don't have other expanding widgets in your panel. Try a panel with just the taskmanager + e.g. the desktop access widget in it.

 Feature request

Score 50%

It would be nice to have the possibility of choosing how many days to display.
I've got lot of events in korganizer (like birthdays), so the plasmoid is really long and displaying just a week (for example) would make it shorter and handy.

Hello,

just to mention a problem (?) with the yearSince value : when the related event is for the next year, the value is still computed with the current year. This is a bit dissapointing as it result in a bad "%yearSince% years old" value.

I don't know if this is the wanted behavior, but in case it isn't, here is a patch (created with version 0.2.1) :

 some entries not displayed

by janet on: Nov 13 2009

Score 50%

Here it often happens that the first entry or sometimes the first entries are not displayed at all. The line is blank but on hovering over it I get the tooltip with the correct event description, very weird.

And sometimes the whole applet gets blank, only showing the categories.

I'm using sidux Aethir up-to-date dist-upgraded, KDE 4.3.2, nVidia card, compositing is turned on.

With the current widget version it goes completely blank when it gets blank, without showing the category headers. That blanking does seem to happend occasionally on/after day change past midnight but that might be a coincidence. When it goes blank that way it seems to lose the akonadi binding. But when it sometimes doesn't display the first today entry/entries they are just invisible like grey text on grey background.

The problem is that I can not reproduce this here with my suse.

The point with midnight is no occassion - there is a timer because the data change for a new day.

I'll try with Sidux on the weekend.

I hadn't problems the last few days but suddenly it happend again, whole applet is blank. I never actually see the moment it happens, it's always when I'm away from the machine for some time. Is there any log file I could look at?

Maybe I have "special" settings: I have set it to show 90 days and use a user defined format for the date: "dd.MM.yy ddd". Kontact is always running, maybe it gets in the way? I have a standard "std.ics" Akonadi comaptibility Resource" for korganizer and use some additionals ics-files for holidays, birthday resources and TV.

What can I do to get the content back into the widget once it blanks (other than restarting KDE)? I don't want to close the widget and re-add it because widgets don't remember their settings when closed.

Today I tried with Sidux "Momos".
At least after an hour no problems.
Is there something "special" with your setup?

No log, if you compile from source you can add some kDebug() stuff.

There is a timer (by default every 5 mins) to look for soon beginning events, maybe it is related to that?

Thanks for testing. I tried with widget's package from Xadras' repo (dep http://sidux.wuertz.org/ sid main) and compiled from source.

I don't know what else "special" could be of interest. I use the widget on the folderview desktop. When it completely blanks the content comes back when I restart plasma (looks like "something" had crashed and is revived that way). But by now it's again the situation that I start my machine and right after login some entries in the widget are blank. Not the first one, but the second and third for today, all three entries overdue/done. With switching to the new day a few minutes ago the list is complete again without having done anything.

When I compile from source how do I add that debug stuff? And how do I get the results of it?

Half the problem is solved: Please don't laugh out loud too much but it was the default textcolor for events already started - grey. So those first entries appeared grey on grey which made them invisible.

When the applet turns completely blank it can be revived by stopping the akonadi server (not restarting!) and starting it again. So there seems to be an akonadi problem.

After some tries, I actually got it working. It takes very long time for the applet to do its initial communication with arkonadi - several minutes in fact. But after that it works :-)

I can not click an event to view the details, though, and for me, the ability to show events from selected resources is required for it to make sense.

Do you have internet resources like google data that may take that long?

You mean a knob to show only e.g. items from korganizer or google...? That should be possible.

Hi,
Yes, I have various resources, including googlecalendar and at least one online calendar, + some local ical files.

Maybe it is possible to make the waiting time not blocking (it blocks plasma). The loading is not blocking in korganizer (and shouldn't that data be shared?)

Sounds very good with resource selection, preferably a list with multi selection, like in korganizer.

I'll be happy to test or do other stuff to help!

After renewing my akonadi resources and removing the google calendar one which akonadi breaks when updating, it works much better!

Another suggestion: Why not simply put "Upcoming Events" as title - who cares that they come from someehting called akonadi??

Should be the 3. entry after "open event" and "new event"?

If not send me an pm wit your email, I'll send you a patch.

I'm not sure to put it in the settings dialog as the resources are independent of the applet and my change (probably rare case ;-).
I think about an option to remember the not shown resources of the session.

Hi,
After restarting plasma (i logged out and back in, but i guess killing off plasma would suffice), I got the menu entry.

It works, but
* I do not see why it should not go into the settings dialog - from a user perspective that is where it belongs
* It shows all akonadi resources, it would be smart to limit it to calendar resources

For easier testing an applet see
http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Plasma/GettingStarted
on the bottom of the page.

Having it in the settings is "a bit" more complicated to code, havent looked if even possible.

The second idea I had this morning too, so please update your git tree.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
