 Doesn't work

by Kirilo on: Jul 8 2009

Hi, when I launch the plasmoid via the plasmoidviewer for testing, I get an error message.
In the Konsole the following shows up:

File "/usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma_scriptengine_python/pyappletscript.py", line 19, in <module>
from PyQt4.QtCore import *
ImportError: /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/sip.so: undefined symbol: _Py_ZeroStruct

Hi. According to http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=101229&forumpage=1&PHPSESSID=cae (gmail-plasmoid description, note section) you need to install the plasma python script-engine, that's name depends on your distribution.

Yeah, thanks, after a reinstall I had forgotten the python-devel package.

Now it works, anyhow, I have a very silly problem: I can't type an 'o' (yes, the vowel, all other letters work) in the plasmoid! :-?

...the console screenlet in Gnome has a Plasma counterpart, and I can finally have a little console embedded in my panel.

Awesome!

 feature req: panel behaviour

Hi!

I like your plasmoid, thank you!

I would like to ask if it is possible to implement the following feature: choose between the acutal behaviour of the plasmoid when in a panel (show directly the emulator) and another one, i.e. show an icon when in a panel and the emulator when the icon is clicked.

cheers :)

Hi. If I've understood you correctly, you are talking about ability to minimize the widget to icon, aren't you? If so, I think it is possible and i'll try to implement this:)

2all: thank you for your comments.

 Another feature request

If this could be placed as a desktop container - it would be even greater for those of us who use console often. Also tabs support would be nice.

BTW, wasn't able to use it, unfortunately. don't know why - plasmoidviewer shows a window with error: could not find requested component "plasmacon.plasmoid" when i run it from konsole with "plasmoidviewer plasmacon.plasmoid" and nothing in the console. Plasma compiled with python support (kde-4.2.96)

You should use plasmoid's real name when you run it with plasmoidviewer. For example, "plasmoidviewer Plasmocon".

About desktop container: can you give me examples of desktop container? I don't know what it is and googling doesn't help.

i've solved my problems with installing this.

may be a bug report or smth like this: then closing konsole session - it doesn't restart one, so u get empty plasmoid.

As for desktop: atm there are 2 - folder view and desktop. also daisy by some accident is show in this list too now. it's in the desktop settings - type of the desktop. you can have folder view all over your desktop now, and i'd really love to see console there :D

really
Thanks, I'll think how to fix it.

Console as a desktop container - interesting idea, but IMHO there will be no big differences between console as a plasmoid and console as a desktop container. Maybe I'm wrong ...

Diffrence is between size of plasmoid and it being without borders and controls. it shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

On my mind, it should be much more difficult, then implementation of any plasmoid.

any chance you can take over development of the 'Run Command' plasmoid?

Maybe. If there are no updates for "Run Command", I'll think about it 1 ot 2 weeks later

What?
Sorry to heard that users don't have faith and don't believe that developers want to work on own projects...

Run Command is still developed, but sorry, I'm working on many projects (these six applets on this site are not only). have some real life and I don't want to really destroy my eyes using ten years old CRT monitor. :-P

Be patient, there will be new release (most probably in August). And please, next time contact developer before writing something like this, because this is very frustrating for them (especially when this is their first applet, their first Qt / KDE application, their first application with GUI)...

Sorry, I'm very frustrated and tired by this all recently. :-/

i heard it was abandoned. sorry. of course you know it has (had?) issues with the being placed in the panel.
i'm using kde 4.3.60 with a double height panel but it doesn't scale vertically to the whole panel, just half of it...

No problem, but it's good to confirm rumors. ;-)

These issues in panel (bugs with focus and menus and completion widgets) are Plasma and Qt bugs / limitations (latter should be fixed with Qt 4.6). And currently there is probably no workaround for this. :-/
Input field height is fixed (default behavior for this kind of widgets) because widget much higher than font size usually looks ugly. I could try to do something with this (for example try to center it vertically) but I don't know if this is perfect solution. If you have ideas / requests please write them on applet page to not create off topic here. ;-)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
