Description:

A configurable script that fetch lyrics from various sites.

  • Features:
    - Multiple site search (reload button can change site source)
    - Google search suggestions
    - Sites arranged by priority
    - Adequate charset support
    - Automatic (omitting track numbers, bracket, parenthesis, feat) and manual adjustment for artist and song name
    - Localizable GUI settings (cache, display mode, sites...)
    - Display modes: rich text, plain text
    - File cache (with expire period)

  • Supported web servers:
    wikia.com, lyricsplugin.com, lyricstime.com, lyricsreg.com, metrolyrics.com, seeklyrics.com, azlyrics.com, jamendo.com, darklyrics.com, mp3lyrics.org, songlyrics.com, elyrics.net, lyricsdownload.com, lyrics.com, lyriki.com, lyricsmode.com, lyricsbay.com, loudson.gs, lyricsfreak.com, sing365.com, allreggaelyrics.com, stixoi.info, teksty.org, tekstowo.pl, vagalume.uol.com.br, google.com

  • Translated into:
    - Czech
    - English
    - French (needs updating)
    - German
    - Italian
    - Lithuanian (needs updating)
    - Portuguese
    - Russian
    - Serbian
    - Spanish
If you want to help translating the script in your language or update an existent translation follow the instructions from README inside script directory.
Note that comment from script.spec is also translatable.

  • Notice:
    - It's suggested to turn off other lyric scripts like default LyricWiki.
    - Some ideas (codes) are taken from Glyrics, LyricWiki, Lyrix and Wiki-Lyrics.
    - Serially web sites change themselves, which can cause the script stops working for the site. Script adaptations are required when a site changes its "template".
    - Script can automatically (without google support) search only sites which URL can be constructed solely by artist and title.
    - The script is usually installed in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ultimate_lyrics/ or in ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ultimate_lyrics/
    - It's possible to disable loading of Ultimate Lyrics in ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc or by removing Ultimate Lyrics installation folder
    - Defaults settings can be changed in main.js when GUI settings doesn't work.
    - The script is not automatically updatable. Occasionally you have to update the script manually from Tools->Script Manager->Get More Scripts->Update

  • To do:
    nothing planned

  • Known issues:
    - The script uses system language settings (chosen by GDM) instead of kde regional settings (can be altered in main.js).
    - The script should work properly with Qt framework 4.5.x or 4.6.x, but may have problems (like missing GUI settings) with an older version.

There is a problem with lyrics engine in amarok. Script always gets index of previous track, and can't figure out valid file name. Currently script exports lyrics using file name of previous file, and because of that problem option of auto exporting is not enabled.

thanks ;) i hope the problem with lyrics engine will be solved soon..
nevertheless i've tried to save the lyrics manually and lyrics are still fetched from web.. is it possible for script to check first the hdd for lyrics? (ideally no cache and fething will be done after whole collection is updated)
and one more thing.. when fetching lyrics i don't think that script is using album name for fetching too.. so the songs named "Intro" have real problem ;)

Using album name in search would give more restricted results, and would generally degrade script usefulness. I have just noticed another function in api which solves current problem with auto export. Also in plan is to use that exported file as source for later search (as suggested). But I'm still not sure auto export is good idea. It is quite advanced use case, and can easily confuse ordinary user.

hmm.. maybe it shouldn't be automatic only mode for export.. if you could make 2 modes manual and smart (semi-automatic) export i think it could be useful for ordinary users too..
manual = explains itself.. just click some save button to save lyrics
smart = if script finds lyrics it saves it if you end up only with selection of links you have to save it manually

The Last version is 1.2. You can check installed version in Script Manager. It looks like the cross distro issue is in opensuse's qtscriptbindings. I can't make it work because I don't have opensuse on my machine.

LyricWiki code needs to be changed, due to the fact the API access for getting lyrics has been shutting down. But you can just use HTML scraping instead.

You just need to replace this file:

    ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/ultimate_lyrics/sites/lyricwiki.org.js

    with this one:

    http://lukeplant.me.uk/uploads/lyricwiki.org.js

Hopefully the official package will be updated soon.

     long titles

Hi, I think that there is a problem with songs with large title. If the length of the title is "large", ultimate lyrics gives a long list of blue underlined links instead of the lyric. Not sure if there is a combination with long artist name too. The threshold is for titles length >= 24 characters, or artist + title >= 45 characters. I’m using Amarok 2.1.1 and the updated version of ultimate lyrics. Thanks.

There is no threshold. When script doesn't find anything, it displays suggestion links from google.com. You can try suggestions by clicking on it. Note that script use artist and title tags inside file, and not file name. Non letter and non number characters can cause miss in searching sometimes.

somebody should try to change the way lyrics are written into cache.
For example, write without creating QByteArray.
I tried to change "f.write(new QByteArray(reply));" to "f.write(reply);", but I failed - it doesn't work. Stream writing didn't work too. Maybe I simply don't know javascript enough to write it correctly.

How do you like Plasma 5?
     The best KDE Desktop ever.
     Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
