 Great Application

by soulrebel on: Aug 31 2009

Thanks for this great app! But the video quality is rather bad, do you always go for the flv?

Could you use higher quality versions of the videos when available? Nearly all youtube-videos have .mp4 (youtube format 18) and some have hd (youtube-format 22)?

Thanks a lot!

Minitube loads videos in MPEG4 format H.264 video AAC audio. That's better than the FLVs you see on YouTube. You can also donate to make HD support happen.

 Problems

When I select a video from the search results, I only see the first frame of the video and it doesn't play. What should I check?

I'm on Fedora 11 64 bits, KDE 4.3.1

This has to do with your Phonon setup. Try to get help from the Fedora community.

You're likely using the Xine engine. Try to use Gstreamer as recommended.

In the KDE 4 system settings you can change the sound playback from xine to gstreamer phonon. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the packages. I added the link to the Minitube download page. Any chance of getting the RPMs into an officially supported repository?

Hmm, I don't know. As I can see, it is already in the Contrib repository. This is a semi-official repository (more official than others ;-) ). It has the same rules like the main distribution. But as I said, I don't know if there were plans to bring it in the main distribution.

 Loading indicator?

by Israphel on: Sep 17 2009

It's better now, but we need something like a "loading bar" to pause the video and wait until start watching it. Otherwise, the video stops.

Sorry, I don't understand your suggestion. Could you try to be more clear?

In youtube.com, there's a "red bar"... somekind of "buffer". So you can press Pause and wait until the buffer is full (or at least a part) and then start playing.

That seems to be my problem as well even after switching to the other backend in kde 4.

OK, now I get it. It is not currently possible to do it with Phonon, because it does not report the buffering progress correctly. But you can still press pause, the video should continue to buffer (Though I'm not 100% sure...)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
