Minitube is a native YouTube client. With it you can watch YouTube videos in a new way: you type a keyword, Minitube gives you an endless video stream. Minitube does not require the Flash Player.

Minitube is not about cloning the original Youtube web interface, it aims to create a new TV-like experience.

 Great app! feature request

Thank you for this perfet application :-) really great job. Two things would be great though - allow to watch vide from URL. As it is now, you can only search for videos by it's name and then see the video from the results. But many times (all the time for me) I dont browse youtube, but stumble upon a video whcih I would like to see - off course the URL is posted. So I have to open the link in browser, see the name of the video, copy it to minitube, then search, then watch. If there was an option to take video from URL the above mentioned procedure would not be needed.

And the other thing - it would be great to download the currently running video just by cliking the button :-) - this would be a bonus...

but I think what I mentioned above is really usefull - would be great to see it :-)

Anyways, thank you for your efforts, I really lke your work!!

minitube is in Ubuntu's development version now. A Karmic backport is in my ppa:

The Karmic package needs testing, because I do not have this version here anymore. Thanks.

 Download video

This is a beautiful application, but suffers somewhat from a missing "Download video" feature. As is, i have to use eltube or some web alternative to do this, which is a shame.

 non flash backend?

just a thought (maybe a good one, maybe not)

found this greasemonkey script for FF that views the video in m44 using mPlayer or vlc plugins - what's should interesting about this is that it should allow hw acceleration using the gpu (if Nvidia's vdpau is present) something not available with Linux Flash (http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/)

"Youtube without Flash Auto"

currently I don't use the script because I use Opera and it doesn't seem to work there

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
