Description:

HELP Needed:

Currently I'm working on a completly rewrite of kbootsplash. This will take quite some time.

But I hope kbootsplash will be much better than.

Every Distribution has now it's own class! So I need developers who are willing to help me support their Distribution.

openSuSE is developed by myself but there are so many other distributions out there.

If someone wants to support me, then please contact me!

Changelog:

- fixed some mandriva specific bugs

- fixed some bugs
- changed to the new icon (by dig412 (sourceforge nick)

- developed a kcontrolcentermodule for testing
- the controlcentermodule has currently one big issue, fullscreenpreview in rootmode does not work !!!! (will be fixed in the next version)

 Can't start the prog

When I want to start the program,
it say's it can't determine the distribution and it crashes.

Is it possible to get around this?

I don't like this, I've LFS 5.1
(LinuxFromScratch). Linux is flexible enough to make general apps which should work on all kind of distributions. In case of doubt let the user decide.

I'am sorry that I'm not able to support linux from scratch. You have to know that every distribution has its own bootsplash system and the most systems have no standards.

Linux from scratch is a little more problematic as debian an slackware.

If you want to get your distribution supported, just help me developing the support. This program is concepted for beginners.

Well I will try to support it, when I know how it work with linux from scratch.

You also have to know the problematic to figure out the initrd and the generation of the initrd on such distributions. SuSE and Mandrake have their scripts for generating the initrd and on these Distribution you have only one initrd, which is standardized and is allways the same. On LFS in theorie you can make dozens of different initrd files and every one has its own with the own unique name.

I hope, that you now see the problem some distributions have.

But you can help me if you want.

Well I've been thinking about you asking me to help your project. I would like to help you, but I do not have that much time now. There are other things more important now.
I'm sorry.

But when this changes in a few weeks, I'll think about it.

Greetings,

Stef

This is good work. But why not make it a kcontrol module instead?

 not working

It does not work under Mandrake 10.1, at least it's settings won't apply. Everything seemes correct despite you can't preview mandrake-installed splash screens.
Changing to installed splashscreen seems ok but does not work, it still boots with previously from mandrake control center selected boot splash.

However, nice program. I wished distributors could unify the way those splash screens work.

Try manually extracting the theme that you would like to use into the /etc/bootsplash/themes/ directory. This is what I needed to do on debian.

Does it work with kbootsplash 0.3.1?

perhaps Mandrake changed something in their initrd scripts.

But installation of new themes should work correctly.

I will check this and correct this bug as soon as possible.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
