Description:

Bangarang is a media player for KDE. The name comes from the Jamaican word for noisy, chaos or disorder.

Feedback and patches are definitely welcome. Packaging contributions are also welcome. I only ask one thing: please be respectful. I do this in my spare time and, as such, I'd like to keep my motivation up.

The source code is maintained on http://gitorious.org/bangarang and anyone interested in helping is certainly welcome.

Please report bugs to http://code.google.com/p/bangarangissuetracking/issues/list

Thanks much for your help!

 Great

by blucidy on: Oct 7 2009

Score 50%

This is really a wonderful project!Your design is so cool and efficient, though I have not yet try it,I was deeply in love with the simple interface. And I wonder if you use phonon or somethings else to play the video?Cause in my country, many videos are in rmvb which ffmpeg and xine can't handle well.
Thanks again, keep up the good work!

Hmm, it looks like it's having a problem finding the Phonon includes on your install. I'll take a look to see what I can do to help.

Thanks much for the feedback.

Looks like missing or incorrect Phonon includes. There was a bug in the Phonon camel case includes in Qt 4.5.0 or Qt 4.5.1 that caused similar problems for me when compiling. That bug went away either when I updated to Qt 4.5.2 or when I updated to KDE 4.3 from backports in kubuntu (don't remember which). Not sure if it's the same problem you're experiencing but hopefully it helps a little.

Thanks much for the feedback. If I come up with any other ideas I'll pass them on. If anyone else has any ideas I'm all ears.

If you happen to be able to generate a backtrace and would be willing send it to me in a message, it might help me figure what causing your crash.

Thanks for your help!

 really good app

by andreaskai on: Oct 8 2009

Score 50%

This app looks really really nice and cheerful.

I have a movie store on my hard disk. but not a good app for handle the store.

When I show a movie or a series, than I have the problem, that I don't know at which season I stop looking. So mayby it will be possible to have a column with last view.

maybe it is possible to have a preview mode like the music picture. where you will see at the left side the video as preview and beneath the preview you show informations about the movie. informations like: last view, how long, genre, ... and some informations from the Internet. on the right side you have the movie overview.

At the section movie, series, ... I would make some subsections like genre (aktion, sci-fi, ...)

This app looks really really good.
I'll wish you good luck.

I would like to help, but I'm no coder. (shame on me)

Thanks for the ideas!

So I'll be updating the video ontology to allow adding genre for videos. I'll likely add a genre selection under the video media lists. Still working on allowing adding artwork. I'm gonna work hard though to not overload the UI.

 Wow!

This *looks* fantastic - I love the look of the UI, very clean and simple.

Unfortunately it seems to crash for me everytime I try and and some media files :-(

I've modified the main CMakeLists.txt file so that you can use CPack to create the source tarball:

http://home.freeuk.com/cpdrummond/development/Bangarang/CMakeLists.txt

To create the tarball, just run 'make package_source' from you build folder.

Thanks for trying it. If you have any backtrace info to share, it might be immensely helpful in figuring out what's causing your crash.

Thanks for your help!

This might be fixed with a recent commit. You can get the fresh sources from http://gitorious.org/bangarang. If you don't have git you can download a tarball of the source by clicking on the "Source Tree" link. the "Download as tar.gz" link is on the left.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
