Description:

Bangarang is a media player for KDE. The name comes from the Jamaican word for noisy, chaos or disorder.

Feedback and patches are definitely welcome. Packaging contributions are also welcome. I only ask one thing: please be respectful. I do this in my spare time and, as such, I'd like to keep my motivation up.

The source code is maintained on http://gitorious.org/bangarang and anyone interested in helping is certainly welcome.

Please report bugs to http://code.google.com/p/bangarangissuetracking/issues/list

Thanks much for your help!

I think a tray icon to hide main app will be good. Good work man, it's really awesome :)

Good work, but miss add to systemtray and equalizer.
What is with the video settings?
Brightness, contrast, hue and saturation not work for me. Or need other apps?

Thank you for efforts

 .desktop file problem

 by Fri13 on: Jan 18 2010

I have GIT version and I still get this error every time when I use urpmi (Mandriva distribution) package manager to install other packages or I install other software what I compile myself from source.

Could not parse file '/usr/share/applications/kde4/bangarang.desktop': Key file contains line '/* BANGARANG MEDIA PLAYER' which is not a key-value pair, group, or comment

This problem was fixed before beta 3. That line is no longer in the bangarang.desktop file. Are you sure you have the latest version?

 External HDD support

by OdinEidolon on: Jan 18 2010

Score 50%

Hi,
the app seems wonderful, downloaded and installed it. The interface is very simple yet effective.
I stopped using Amarok only because of the ugly external HDD support, which obliged me to wait 45 mins (with the pc blocked) every time I tried to listen to music from my external 1TB HDD.
Does Bangarang support external devices? I mean, do I have to reload the collection every mount, like with Amarok?

Try it. I haven't strictly tested this use case. But, currently I have all my videos on a my desktop machine. I manually mount the nfs share on my laptop when I need it. Bangarang always shows me all the videos I categorized - mounted or not.

The only thing that will likely not work is if the external hdd mounts to a different mount point. Nepomuk in KDE SC 4.4 has some new accomodation for that so I'll work that into the next feature release.

Hope this helps.

Hi, seems to work with my external HDD. Even tho its not very fast, it does not freeze the computer like Amarok does.

Thankfully someone recently donated Brazilian Portuguese translations. Should be in the next bugfix release in a few weeks.

 Great!

Great Player. The first Player i found with a usable video library.

I 've no pulse audio. When i try to play a file i get an error, that the sound device is not working.

Fedora 12, KDE 4.
Tray Icon would be nice.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
