Description:

!!!Important update!!

I've always thought we're all here open-minded and kind people. Seems like I was wrong.

Today I've received a letter from a man called Yassen Pavlov smack@vip.bg with the following text:

"I just wanted to let you know that I can't believe what an bitch you are. You asked for the guy who was maintaining the project you abandoned to give you admin rights and you never showed up again since he did so. Not even once... Thank you very much for that. I hope you'll die from cancer."

Well thanks a lot Yassen, this is what I actually need right now being a young mom with a little kid on my hands. See now, I'm here, are you happy?

OK, now to the point. I've switched to MacOS completely and have no platform to develop and test this script. It was a good experience and it was fun. I actually did not ever expected it would be such a success. But now I have to pass it over to somebody who wants to continue this development.
Please contact me jinjiru at jinjiru dot com if you want to take this project to your hands.

Mount ISO Image is an advanced script which allows to perform multiple operations with ISO, NRG (Nero Burning ROM), UDF (DVD), CUE/BIN, CCD/IMG/SUB (CloneCD), XDVDFS (XBOX) and MDF images.
Mount/unmount operations can be performed in two different ways: using kdesu or sudo. During the installation you'll be offered to choose a variant to use.
Note: If you prefer to use sudo, you should first choose to "Setup sudo config" in installation menu.

Translations
------------
- German (by Markus Bloch)
- Italian (by marcosegato)
- Russian (by Jinjiru)
- Serbian (by Mladen Pejaković)
- Spanish (by Javier Ariza Rodríguez & Alberto Garcia)

If you submit translations, please, send them within the utf-8 text file to prevent encoding mistakes! All non utf translations will not be considered!

Bugs and translations
----
I really need your help with translations and feature requests - please send them pejakm at gmail dot com. If you sent any translations or suggestions some time ago - please resend them!
If you find any errors please do not hesitate to report them. If you have any suggestions or want to contribute in any manner - you're always welcome!

Important Notice!!!

Since this project appears to be abandoned, administrators have gave moderation control over this project to me, pejakm. I intend to continue and to improve this script as good as I can. If the original authors decide to continue their work I will happily give them this back.

 Error and German

by seraphyn on: Mar 30 2004

Score 50%

And it should have a check if the folder servicemenus exist or not, if not it should create one, because this would give an Error, if there is no Servicemenu.

Engl:
I have wrote up a stepbystep german Installationmanual on http://linuxeinsteiger.info/ called
"Über das Rechtsklickmenü in KDE eine ISO-Datei auf den Dekstop einbinden" for Begeinners who don't know Howto do this and have complications with the Installation.
I have included the Howto for putting the german Language into the Script mount-iso-image-0.3.7.

I think this one will be obsolet, after the script checks if there is a servicemenu or not and the german language is in.

Germ:

mount-iso-image Version 0.3.7 bekommt.

You have done a very Good Job and i think it should be a default in KDE, because most of the Beginners asks in our forum How to mount an ISO and why it is so hard.
THX

Greetings

Seraphyn

Thanks for you suggestion - I've made installer check if this directory exists and create it otherwise. German translation has also been added - see our next release (coming real soon!)

 Problem with SuSE

 by Bam0112 on: Mar 30 2004

Score 50%

This looks like a fantastic add on, but I can't seem to get it to work in SuSE 9.0. The install script would fail saying it couldn't find the share/apps dir in line 76 until I edited it to point to the KDE directory (SuSE stores KDE in /opt/kde3). Once I did that the install went fine. mountiso.sh was installed in /opt/kde3/share/apps/mountiso/ and the .desktop file was installed to /opt/kde3/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/

The mount & unmount iso options were now available, but when I clicked an ISO file and chose mount, no folder was created & the iso wasn't mounted. Nothing happened.

Any suggestions to get this working on my distro would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Shame on me, I haven't checked it at work on my SuSE installation yet...

FYI - this script currently supports only single-user installs, i.e. not system-wide to /opt/kde3 or /usr but ~/.kde.

Version 0.4 (or at least 0.5) was planned to let user choose if he want to install globally or just to his/her own profile - you may wait for this feature (I would say - a day or two) or contact me through e-mail (check my profile).

Thank you for your interest in our project!

Specifically, ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus. I had to create this manually.

But have you tried v0.3.8? There is a fix for this behavior - installer checks if this dir exists and if no - creates it before putting .desktop file in there.

Tell me if you experienced this with our latest version - that'd be strange, might be a bug.

Alas, it is v0.3.8 that I had the problem with. :(

I also had the problem where the mount point created on the Desktop doesn't get removed when the kdesu login is cancelled.

BTW - I think this tool will be very useful once these minor issues are resolved. Keep up the good work. :)

Hiya!
Take a look at v0.4.0 - I tried to address all your problems and it would be great if you could verify if this version works better for you. Thanks!

 mount rights?

by bauerr on: Mar 31 2004

Score 50%

What is the reason why this could not be done by a user?

A user could already have an own mount
command in the $USER/bin dir.
Is there a replacement for loop available which does not need the system restrictions?

It doesn't matter if you have your own 'mount' command or not - it's about permissions to mount a specific device/file/directory. If you have them (i.e. written in /etc/fstab) you can do it as a regular user, but in our case (with ISOs) it is not feasible - too much hassle to put all your ISO images in /etc/fstab (you have to be root to do it, anyway).

Just an idea why not using autorun in combination ?

the ability of mounting is not dependend on the owner of the mount binary.
mount has to do entries in system file (mainly mtab) and acquire the device - to prevent opening the system, mount checks to be called root by root if it cannot use a fstab entry. (actually mount has the suid bit set)

However ;-) this actually _can_ be done without root permissions or sudo... (you only need to be root for the installation process, and you're pre resticted to an unlimited (or only limited by the amount of loop devices) number of iso mounts at once)

Could you please give an example - i cannot fully understand your words :(

We'd like to improve our servicemenu as much as possible - that's why i'm asking you to examplify.

i wrote a comment on this to
ginger@kypexin.ru
(containing a sample script that mounts .dmgs this way, i think)
and got a reply.
basically the idea is to add an entry to fstab that mounts a open available symlink (e.g. /tmp/virtualcd) as loop device and dynamically link the real iso image to this position right before mounting (and remove the link after umount)
if you want more virtual devices, you need more entries in fstab (and let the script check, if they're currently in use)
the upper restriction is the amount of available loop devices

 problems...

Using a farily standard install of Mandrake 10.0. The last version (0.3) managed to mount the iso image, but couldn't find the un-mount program. This version (0.3.9) creates the desktop folder, but there is nothing in it, so when I try to unmount, it says nothing is mounted...

1) Are you using sudo or kdesu version?
2) What output gives you the 'mount' program? Does it include your iso or not? Perhaps it was mounted somewhere else...

I've tried both install versions (what's the difference??), and the results are the same. The image is not mounted elsewhere, as I say it seems like it thinks it's managed. Since I used the menus by right clicking in Konqueror, I don't see the output itself.

When trying to unmount the image by the desktop folder, the following error pops up:

ERROR: Folder "/home/andrew/Desktop/Mount-ISO (StarOffice_Power_Publisher.iso)" exists but ISO is not mounted!

A very useful menu , but why not extend it also for .nrg images ?

This images are very common , and too much people (in particular newbie) that uses linux dont'know how to treat.

mount -t iso9660 -o loop,offset=307200 image.nrg mount_point/

What do you think ?

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
