kffmpegthumbnailer

   1.1.0

KDE Video Application

Score 79%

Minimum required   KDE 4.x

Submitted:  Dec 24 2009
Updated:  Jan 7 2010

Description:

kffmpegthumbnailer is a video thumbnailer for kde based on ffmpegthumbnailer. The thumbnailer uses ffmpeg to decode frames from the video files, so supported videoformats depend on the configuration flags of ffmpeg.

This thumbnailer was designed to be as fast and lightweight as possible.

Changelog:

version 1.1.0 (January 6, 2010)
- Updated to ffmpegthumbnailer 2.0.0 interface

version 1.0.1 (December 28, 2009)
- Fixed thumbnails not being generated for filenames containing non-ascii characters (Thanks to fedux.c)

Version 1.0.0 (December 24, 2009)
- Initial release

In Gentoo's Portage as media-video/kffmpegthumbnailer now, right next to ffmpegthumbnailer-1.5.6 :-)

1. Start Dolphin
2. Go to "Settings"
3. Go to "Configure Dolphin"
4. Go to "General"
5. Go to "Previews"
6. Select "kffmpegthumbnailer" to show "Video Files" instead of "MPlayerThumbs"

At least that's what I did...

Thanks, but it doesn't work though. I get not preview when disabling ffmpegthumnailer and enabling kffmpegthumnailer.

You can't "disable" ffmpegthumbnailer. It's just a binary on our system. Did you enable kffmpegthumbnailer like ssuominen said and are you using dolphin?

Yes I enabled kffmpegthumbnailer.
I should have ffmpegthumbnailer and kffmpegthumbnailer enabled simultaneously?

Well I'll say it better.
In my preview config windows I have

kffmpegthumbnailer and
MplayerThumbs (that's what I mean by saying ffmpegthumbnailer, sorry).

1) So if I disable kffmpegthumbnailer and enable MplayerThumbs, I get video preview.

2) If I enable both I still get video preview.

3) If I enable kffmpegthumbnailer and diable MplayerThumbs I don't get video preview.

In the first case (if I disable kffmpegthumbnailer) what app is used to produce thumbnails?
If I enable kffmpegthumbnailer, then it disables this other app and takes it's place?

thanks and sorry for the inconvenience

A big thanks for this great plugin. I always hated using thumbnailers before, because they all were so ugly slow. This thumbnailer is really fast. It´s just fun to use it.

Thank U very much! :-)

Ok I installed the newer version, disabled Mplayer Thumbs, enabled kffmpegthumbnailer and WOW! It's fast :)
Maybe the problem with the previous version (no previews at all) was because my folders had greek names?

Glad it works, it was indeed the greek names that were causing troubles.

This one should become the default thumbnailer for KDE 4.4.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
