Description:

#######################################

Notes From the author:

Gentoo EBuilds are now inside Git Repositories , Please clone and get it.

Besides , these features are now offically included in bespin project ;-)

( layman -a kde and check out x11-themes/bespin )

#######################################

Recent Updates by falkTX:

* Implemented Icons, based on list from QtCurve configs.
* Implemented Checkable menus.
* Fixed \"Attempt to set global shortcut for action without objectName()\"

link to the patch:
http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/tmp/plasma-globalmenu_goodies.diff

Known Bugs:
* Not working fine with Eclipse.
( From Thomas: it's problem with GGM plugin , native of Java )

Evey feature , that i need , is added to this version , if you need anything specific , plz post a comment here , you're welcomed.

Originally plasma-globalmenu was developed by Wang Hoi , thanks for him firstly.

Well , this modification made all menus available global for Gnome / GTK ( dynampic linked with system library ) , possible.

The screenshot is running KDE 4.4.5 , with Bespin Style , XBar plasma widget , on Gentoo System.

Here comes the instructions:
1. Install gnome-globalmenu firstly.
See offically on http://code.google.com/p/gnome2-globalmenu/wiki/Installation

2. Compile plasma-globalmenu (this)
%> tar xvf plasma-* # Extract
%> cd plasma* # Enter Dir

%> cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` . # Gen Makefile
%> sudo make -j4 install # Install

3. Launch Command when login to KDE system
/usr/bin/globalmenu
So easily adding a startup command , do as what you can.

Bonus: If you want all Qt Programms have the ability to gain a globalmenu , try command `qtconfig` , and , yep select bespin style by default , that will be cool !

Changelog:

* Fixed Minimize Problem , when window is minimized , and restored , top menu will automatically hide or restore to applications's ( app like iptux , pidgin )
Thanks edio for finding this bug !

* Fixed problems with empty top menu like Opera Browser , Firefox , OOO.
When supported application is switched out , as other unsupported apps turns up , top menu will be restored to "plasma" , yeah !

* Fixed Minimize / Window losing focus problem , menu will be restored ( Newly Fixed )
Thanks for Thomas for helping me fix this bug !

* Fixed another problem , when a KDE application get focus , and a GTK apps minized to sys tray , menu will be restored to KDE app's.

* Added an ebuild link for plasma-globalmenu-0.21 , by MalleRIM , thanks very much !

Tell please, what have you modified exactly? How this differs from globalmenu in svn?
http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/base/plasma/globalmenu/

Have you add support for submenus and icons?
Thanks

Sure ;-)

I found the original one has some problems , it's missing lots of menus when it's activated.

So i checked it's source code , plasma-globalmenu tried to used attributes("type") to tell what kind of menu it reads from gnome-globalmenu's DBUS interface. ( type i , s , r .. )
Debugging make me know , the type actually have only two types , empty ones and "s" ( means separator ) , so i removed anything else , modified the structure of the process of create menus.

Yep , submenu is working fine , i think.
Icons is not supported at this moment , i don't know where to get icons , maybe dbus support it ?

 Can't compile

by edio on: Aug 20 2010

Score 50%

CMake Error: The current CMakeCache.txt directory /home/edio/abs/unsupported/globalmenu-mod/src/plasma-globalmenu/CMakeCache.txt is different than the directory /Library/tools/svn/plasma-globalmenu where CMackeCache.txt was created. This may result in binaries being created in the wrong place. If you are not sure, reedit the CMakeCache.txt

Are you trying with the 0.14 version ?

I tried to launch emacs , close it , and re-launch , nothing wrong ?

I tried with pidgin and plasma-globalmenu 0.14.

I select pidgin, menu appears
Then select Opera, menu doesn't disappear
If I close pidgin, menu will show plasma menu and then won't appear again for pidgin.

Looks, like problem is in pidgin. The other apps work great.

Try 0.15 now ;-)
It's my problem , i didn't hide / restore the top menu when apps is minimized / raised , so top menu will be missing like what you described.

 It works

Now all works fine.

Though, the small issue with GTK still persist:
when switching from Qt application to application, which doesn't support globalmenu (Opera), Xbar shows plasma menu. It is Xbar's normal behaviour.
But when switching from GTK app to Opera, Xbar shows nothing or menu of the GTK application.

It is not critical at all.

 Another issue

by edio on: Aug 21 2010

Seems like something is broken in 0.16.
To reproduce bug select GTK app, then Qt app (pidgin > okular in my case). Okular menu won't appear until global menu restarted.

I'm very sorry , please fall back to the last good version , 0.15.
Even though i already found the place to restore XBar default menu , when apps loses focus , just don't know what i should add.
I'm now seeking for help on Bespin's code ;-)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
