Description:

KNemo - the KDE Network Monitor

A detailed review of the KNemo 0.4.7 can be found at Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/linux/KNemo-Review-53310.shtml

KNemo offers a network monitor similar to the one found in Windows. For every network interface it displays an icon in the systray. It can also optionally montor traffic statistics.

Changelog:

Version 0.7.6
  • Tweak the dialogs to make them a bit more compact

  • Make the traffic plotter widgets behave more like those in the KDE System Monitor

  • Fix a few minor bugs that gave us wrong values in the traffic plotter range

  • LicenseGPL

     traffic notification

    Hi!
Thanks for the really nice application! I've just started using it, and it is working great.
But I would like to suggest one feature:
Would it be possible to show the actual transfer speed (up and down) instead of the systray icon?
Or another suggestion: Show the traffic notification in the systray only when the traffic goes above a choosable minimal value.

I would appreciate comments to this feature request!

Sure it would be possible. At the moment I am working on statistics for KNemo (collecting and storing transfered data) but work goes on rather slowly as I have very limited time. Next on my TODO would be to use /sys as an alternative to ifconfig.

The KNemo version in SVN (http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/network/knemo)already has this feature (traffic threshold). But there is still no date for the next release with statistics support.

Hmm, maybe you should use something like 'ifplugd' or similiar to start and stop your interface on demand? KNemo only monitors the output of 'ifconfig', nothing else.

    Yep, agreed.
This is a very nice piece of software, but it'd be much greater if right clicking on an interface would allow to start/stop/configure it.

How about being able to customize the icon color when monitoring several interfaces?

Keep up the good work :)

    Hi raphink,

one can add menues to the icons
    in systray: configure -> interface
    tab, in group context menu.

    Problem is that many distros
and non linux *ixes do it in
    different ways So it's
    hard to ship something useful
for all. (knemo does not rely
    on linux only features)

    Of cource distros can preconfigure
the menus in their binary pkgs.
I'm sure users will appreciate this.

     Setup Problem

by gbrinkmann on: Jan 31 2006

    Score 50%

I had the problem that I did configure a device that was not connected. Also knemo should hide this device unless it is connected. The result was, that I had no chance to reconfigure knemo because it did not show up anywhere.

I could not find a configuration option. I saw the service entry in the component configuration of kcontrol but you cannot choose "Configure KNemo..." there.

(The only chance I saw, was to manually set up the ~/.kde/share/config/knemorc file with an existing device. This helped me out of this situation.)

Some suggestions for enhancement that was interesting for me:

    * Offer a configuration entry in kcontrol or another way to envoke the prefs of knemo.

    * An option to switch off the animation of the icons.

    * Instead of the icon a small network monitor could be displayed if the device is connected.

    * Define what happens if the icon is clicked (e.g. start "pon" if disconnected or "poff" if connected). This is possible via the menu but a direct click would be nicer IMHO.

    * Set the duration of the shown tooltip when (dis)connected. (0 to switch it off)

    Thanks,

    Gert

In an earlier comment it is
    already mentioned that code

for activity. I'm not sure if
0 disables it, but 10 GByte
    will do the trick ;)

Ok, sorry for some of the topics.

    * I have (by accident) found the configuration of knemo in kcontrol (Internet&Network/Network Monitor). It would be great if it could be found by searching fore knemo in kcontrol.

    * The duration of the shown tooltips is for sure a kde thing. But I do not know if there is a configuration option somewhere. (I could not find one.)

I will see, if I have the time to report the wish items in the bug tracker, soon.

    I've fixed the knemo's kcontrol

    So in next knemo release/pkg
it's possible to search with success
    for knemo and other keywords.

How do you like Plasma 5?
     The best KDE Desktop ever.
     Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
