Description:

KEncFS is a gui frontend for encfs. With KEncFS you can easily create, mount, umount and delete your encrypted filesystem.

Use of KEncFS is very simple: to create a new encrypted filesystem you must create new or select two existent dirs, one directory to archive encrypted files and another directory to mount on the encrypted filesystem with encfs (a mountpoint). After this, you can select a conventional ID for your encrypted filesystem and then a password.

With KEncFS you can also manage your encrypted filesystem. You can browse, mount, umount, remove from list (not from disk) your encrypted filesystem, in easy way.

INSTALL FROM SOURCE
=====================
Open a konsole into source dir and write

$> qmake-qt4
$> make
$> sudo make install

Note: the automatic installation is done in the following directories:

/usr/bin/ for KEncFS itself
/usr/share/doc/kencfs-1.3 for this README
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kencfs/translations for .qm files of languages
/usr/share/applications/ for kencfs.desktop file

If you want to change some of those path, adjust qmake kencfs.pro file.

Note: KEncFS has nothing to do with programs with similar name (for example k-encfs), who carry out similar functions. This is a new program designed specifically for KDE4.

 Useful app

by mcpatnaik on: Oct 24 2010

Score 63%

This is quite useful app as it can be used to bypass the commandline. Earlier I used to create shell scripts for my directories.
As many users don't know about encfs, the gui may provide the much needed face lift for the security app. It is good.

I could not reproduce this bug. To me the directory is created automatically with the "sudo make install". Are you sure you use the "sudo"?

Hi!

I made it with sudo, sure, but i did "sudo checkinstall".

It should not matter, but i read, that there can be sometimes problems like this with checkinstall, so it's not your our my fault ;)

Greetings and thanks again!

Hi, this error doesn't depend from kencfs sources.

Please, take a look here:

well, it kind of is... i think...

although it seems to be a gcc 4.7 issue, adding

Quote:
#include <unistd.h>

to qtlocalpeer.cpp solves the problem...

thanks for helping! :)

The KEncFS v1.2 has a problem with the older encfs5 volumes as it doesn't work with them at all.
This is because of a limitation in the code.
For all of you that have older encfs5 volumes resulting in inability to be added to KEncFS 1.2, I've prepared a simple patch here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=331896.

It was tested and working on amd64 and x86 both with new encfs6.xml and encfs5 volumes...

More info in the Gentoo bug report here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446652.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
