Description:

Interceptor is a Plasmoid for KDE4 on Posix systems, such as Linux. Its role is
to intercept (catch) the log info from the syslog daemon, to flash whenever a
log line is processed, and display it on a panel.
In addition, interceptor can send an adequate notification to the
KDE4 systray when a log line matches a given regular expression.
This notification can even include an interaction, i.e. a button is
displayed, that executes a command when clicked.

Changelog:

Should work with OpenSUSE 11.4

That worked and ran with no errors. I'll reboot later, but shouldn't I at least be able to see the widget? Your instructions are a bit out dated since they are not called "plasmoids' any more but widgets.

"On the desktop or on the taskbar, select Add Plasmoids. You should see the Interceptor icon."
I don't see the icon when I try to add a widget and can't find it.

Ok, first of all, let's see if mkintfifos worked:

Check if /var/run/interceptor exists and if it contains fifos like warning, info, alert etc...

Then check either /etc/rc.d/rc.local or /etc/init.d/rc.local exist. One of them should contain at least the line "# interceptor fifo files"

Also check if either /etc/syslog.conf or /etc/rsyslog.conf exist, and if one of them contains the line "# Entries for interceptor"

If everything ok, you should be able to run the command:

plasma-windowed interceptor

As to plasmoid or widget, I don't care about the name. Its pupose is my only concern.

Yes that is all there

Then check either /etc/rc.d/rc.local or
/etc/init.d/rc.local exist

/etc/init.d/rc.local is there with these lines;
# interceptor fifo files
VR=/var/run/interceptor

Also check if either /etc/syslog.conf or
/etc/rsyslog.conf exist

syslog.conf only has these lines;
# Entries for interceptor

*.=debug |/var/run/interceptor/debug
*.=info |/var/run/interceptor/info
*.=notice |/var/run/interceptor/notice
*.=warning |/var/run/interceptor/warning
*.=err |/var/run/interceptor/err
*.=crit |/var/run/interceptor/crit
*.=alert |/var/run/interceptor/alert
*.=emerg |/var/run/interceptor/emerg

rsyslog.conf is also present with lots of entries, but no interceptor lines.

So, do you see the widget or not ?

Btw, do you run the plasmoid as root, i.e. with sudo -s or something like that ?

If yes, try to execute

plasma-windowed interceptor

as a normal user.

So, if you execute

plasma-windowed interceptor

as a normal user, you still get:

PlasmaApp::loadCommandLineOptionsForNewInstance()
plasma-windowed(5699)/kdecore (services) KServiceFactory::findServiceByDesktopPath: "" not found
plasma-windowed(5699)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)

IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

?

On my Kubuntu system, I rebooted again for good measuer. When I run the command in one tab in konsole I get errors:
plasma-windowed interceptor
QMetaObject::invokeMethod: No such method PlasmaApp::loadCommandLineOptionsForNewInstance()
plasma-windowed(2706)/kdecore (services) KServiceFactory::findServiceByDesktopPath: "" not found
plasma-windowed(2706)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

If I run the command in another tab it returns nothing, but displays nothing as well.

Ok, no need to reboot again and again.

The proble seems to be due to the so-called ibus.

The standard Qt environment uses dbus, not ibus which seems to be a newer derivative whose I've never heard of before...

However kubuntu may have been built upon ibus. Please, send a comment to any kubuntu help mailing list in order to know what to do in that case.

Found out how to get ibus started
for the local user use "im-switch -c" and choose ibus-kde
for all users "sudo im-switch -c"

But still cant get it to start.

The problem is that you are the only user who provides me with substantial return.

I can't compare with other kubuntu users or other distros, I don't know if the problem is specific to you or to kubuntu.

Do you know another kubuntu user who would be ready to test my widget ?

Ah and I forgot: I have made a new release, rc2, on my site. In addition to the latest install script, I include a better DataEngine and better transparency.

I already told you: I need the feedback from another kubuntu user.

It works fine on Mandriva. As to the other distros, no return from the users, neither negative nor positive. So...

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
