Version Control:  Link
Minimum required   KDE 4.x
Downloads:  708
Submitted:  Mar 8 2011
Updated:  Aug 1 2011

Description:

A KDE plasmoid that shows active application’s icon and/or name. I think it is useful to use jointly the menubar. It is based on current app control. In fact, it would better if the active application applet was eventually part of the menubar applet.

To install:
- extract to a folder and once there
- mkdir build && cd build
- cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
- make
- sudo make install

Any (constructive) feedback is welcome

Changelog:

Version 0.2.2

- Fixed a bug that caused the applet to look ugly in light plasma themes

Version 0.2.1

- Fixed a bug that caused plasma-desktop impossible to be rebooted

Version 0.2

- Added options to choose whether to show only app name (default), only icon, or both.

- Removed extra left space

Version 0.1.2

- Truncated application names are more fancy now

Version 0.1.1

- Application names are kept to a single line

- Application names are truncated to 15 characters max.

First release 0.1

 Remove Name

by FSchulz on: May 28 2011

Hey!
It would be great if you add an option to remove the programm-name-label, so that the only thing you see is the icon. I use the X-Bar from bespin and this already shows the programm name. This would be great!

Best regards!

Yes, but I am very happy with Xbar and it has some abilities, menu bar hasn't and so I ask if he could ad an option or write me, which lines I have to change in code to remove the label. I already tried it, but I didn't get it.

Best regards!

to give options is almost always good. I'll try to do it when I have time, but I have to say that I'm quite busy right now. if you would like to do it, I could help you...

This day I looked again at the source code and now I created a version without the program-name. Now I am happy :). If anyone wants to have it, just ask me.

Best regards!

I plan to add these options:

- app name only
- app icon only
- both together

I hope I will be able to find some time for that soon...

 plasma crash

Me again!

After a restart today plasma crashed every time I tried to start kde. I manually edited my configs and deleted your plasmoid and restored my .kde4 config. Now all work again. So there is an error in your plasmoid that crashes the plasma-desktop. Best regards!

Thanks for telling. Could you please add an informative backtrace of the plasma-desktop crash?
This would be very appreciated to see more specifically what the problem was.
Once we look at that we can try to get where the actual problem is, surely in Active Application, but might be also possible in Plasma itself, hopefully not.

Is this still happening to you? I have been using new version of active application for several days without problem. it could also be that some config file was making the issue. you could try removing the applet from the bar and including it again afterwards...

Sorry for the very late answer... I have exams atm and don't have much time. I just installed my modded version of your old version and use it. I don't have the time to test your new one, but I'll do it when my exams are done. Then I can tell you more! So ones again, sorry for the late answer!

Best regards!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have the ability to change the color of the font, and maybe the font itself (like size, and style). Right now, it's really blurry on my task bar, and I dunno why that it...

Yes, I recognize this should be done at some point, but I must confess that I don't know how yet and I am pretty busy currently, so I cannot tell when... In the meantime I'll change the color to default, so at least it's not ugly when using light plasma themes

If I find the time, I'll try to do what you asked. And eventually also combine 'my little toy' with the menubar and the kwinbuttons applets. But this can take a long while, hopefully not too long...

After searching on this website for similar errors, I ascertained that I needed some dev packages. After getting devs for kdelib and kde-workspace, I was able to get the cmake command a little further along. But now I'm getting a new error, so I must need still more dependencies.

Here's the whole output:

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
