Hi @reves121 and @Brutus180

In first place I'm sorry, I haven't got time to package the plasmoid to all the distros and I understand that can be dificult compile it.

You need to install the dependencies (the name of the packages will be variable between distros)

make, g++ (probably your distro will have a package like build-essentials install it), libmagic-dev, libqt4-dev, kdelibs5-dev and probably some similar to libplasma

Then open a terminal and go to the Takeoff folder, run "qmake", a Makefile file should appear. Then run "make", and if all is ok some "*.so" files will appear in the folder "plasmoid" (in addition to the "plasma-applet-takeoff.desktop" file)

If all is ok, run the _install.sh script:
$ chmod +x ./_install.sh
$ ./_install.sh YourRootPass

If you have any problem, please, copy and paste the output of the "make" command. I will try to make packages for most important distros in the future ;)

You need the libmagic devel files installed. On Ubuntu/Debian it's libmagic-dev.

Installing libmagic-dev allowed it to compile.

After installing libmagic-dev I tried to compile again, everything seems to be fine, the terminal didn't show any error, but then, whenever I try to add it to my desktop "plasma-desktop" just freezes, and I have to kill it and start it again.
Then, I tried to run the plasmoid by:
$ plasmoidviewer takeoff

And I get this error:
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No existe el fichero o el directorio
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/miguel/.config/ibus/bus
false

Hope you can help me, thanks.

Hi!

But the plasmoid runs well in plasmoidviewer? This output is normal, don't worry:

$ plasmoidviewer takeoff
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No existe el fichero o el directorio
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/jose/.config/ibus/bus
plasmoidviewer(3144)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)
plasmoidviewer(3144)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)

What distro are you using?? In Kubuntu sometimes it occurs (I don't know if it is a bug or is a Takeoff problem), anyway, try to make a double click over the plasmoid to add it to your desktop and then move it to the panel

Greetings!

The install script is poorly written (because of the `ls lib*` = if somebody has an alias for the ls command, for example).

But the problem is I can not get this applet to run, this is the error:

Could not find requested component: plasma_applet_takeoff

I'm running openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) KDE 4.7

It compiles fine, but it looks like the install script tries to put the .so in the wrong place. On my system, the libs are in /usr/lib64/kde4/ . . . line ~24 in the installation script tried to put it in /usr/lib/kde4/.

After changing the path, the install script completed, but the plasmoid complains that it can't find the takeoff component.

It does run from the console using: plasmoidviewer takeoff

Hope this helps.

I make PKGBUILD for Arch Linux, but I get same message:

I checked all path and it don't takes any effect.
Run 'plasmoidviewer takeoff' from the console is successful.

Really I don't know where could be the problem, I'm having the same problem in Chakra after reboot.

I'll change from qmake to cmake, I think that it probably could solve the problem. I'll publish a new release as soon as possible.

I'm able to successfully complete the install script, however, when I try to add the plasmoid to the desktop I get this error:

This object could not be created for the following reason:

Any ideas? I also tried running the script with the modification of '/usr/lib64/kde4' as another user suggested but I got the exact same error.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
