Updated:  Nov 10 2011

Description:

Modified version of KDE 4.7 taskbar applet and taskmanager library.

Modifications:

1. Show only icons (no text) in taskbar.
2. When a launcher is activated, place the task\'s taskbar entry at the same location as the launcher.
3. Tasks with no associated launcher, are placed after launcher tasks (unless alphabetically sorted).
4. Always group tasks.
5. Only allow launchers for items with .desktop files
6. Add a dialog to manually set the association from a window to a .desktop file - so that launcher can be created.
7. Add option to activate/iconify whole group when left button is pressed (taken from SmoothTasks). If disabled, then present windows is used for the group.
8. Use oxygen \'+\' icon to indicate a collpased group.
9. Use middle button to launch new instance of a task.
10. Attempt to place start-up spinner over launcher/task.
11. Add option to always use the launcher icon for taskbar entry - even when app is active. This works-around the issue where some applications (e.g. LibreOffice) have a different launcher/menu icon than the actual app uses.
12. Workaround an issue with a tasks attention state.
13. More tasks shown in tooltips.
14. Close tasks via tooltips.
15. Show right-click menu for task in tooltips.
16. Option to show job progress over task icon.
17. DockManager API support
18. Media player buttons in tooltips
19. Unity API

Changelog:

0.9.2
=====
1. Allow DockManager "icon-file" to refer to an icon name.
2. Add DockManager API extension (capability "x-kde-dock-item-overlay", dock item property "x-kde-overlay") to allow plugins to specify an overlay icon to be placed top-left of icon.
3. Dont attempt to get commandline for pid 0 - seems to crash KSysGuard library.
4. Use plasma themed close icon for tooltips.
5. Clear any exising entries before showing recent documents menu.
6. When reloading xbel/office recent documents, only clear old documents of that type.
7. When an action is marked as a separator, add a separator to the menu - just adding the action leads to an entry that looks like a menu title.
8. Read LibreOffice 3.4 recent documents from recently-used.xbel
9. Fix DockManager::GetItemsByPid

0.9.1
=====
1. When changing tooltip from one item to the next, call the toolTipHidden slot - so that the item can unregister from the tooltip signals.
2. Fix compilation with KDE less than 4.7
3. Fix dockmanager plugin sub-menus.
4. If compiled against KDE 4.8, dont need IconTask specific taskmanager.

0.9.0
=====
1. Use KSysGuard libraries to read process information.
2. Only ever show the separator if we actually have some launchers.
3. Rename taskmanagerrc to taskmanagerrulesrc
4. Middle click on tooltip is same as middle click on task.
5. Add middle click option - "Move To Current Desktop"
6. When manually moving launchers/tasks, move immediately rather than showing the drop indicator. The previous behaviour may be re-enabled by passing -DICON_TASKS_SHOW_DROP_INDICATOR_FOR_MOVE=true to cmake.
7. If there are too many windows for tooltip, display "Plus X more..."
8. Better calculation of rws and columns in tooltip.
9. Fix not being able to interact with first launcher/entry whilst a task is starting.
10. Fix totally broken dockmanager config UI.
11. Dont check if filename changes dock dockmanager, always update if an icon name is set.
12. Only store 1 container of launchers - not map for launchers, and list for sort order.
13. Fix detection of kcmodule launchers.
14. Try not to use exec() to open config dialogs, so as to not freeze plasma!
15. Remove usage of custom properties in QActions for menus.
16. Use standard KOpenWithDialog to select applications. Allows creation of non-desktop based launchers.
17. Save launcher lock state in applet, not taskmanager library.
18. All changes to taskmanager library are now in KDE/master. Because of this there is no 'basic' menu setting, as the menus have been re-arranged. The only difference between IconTasks's taskmanager and KDE (as of 4.8) taskmanager is the name of the Advanced sub menu. In KDE/master this is now know as "More Actions"
19. Don't set DESKTOP_SESSION to ubuntu, UnityFox has been updated an version 0.2.2 no longer requires this. For an updated UnityFox see:

 Sonata media icons.

May occur only to me but after update(0.7.0) media player icons do not appear in sonata's nor qmpdclient's tooltip. However for example in amarok they appear as expected.
With 0.6.2 there were no such problem.

Step by step I made all instruction from README:
1. mkdir build
2. cd build
3. cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix`
4. make
5. sudo make install

In finally I saw:
Install the project...
-- Install configuration: "RelWithDebInfo"

After this I run "kbuildsycoca4" and
via "plasmapkg --list | grep icontasks"
I saw icontasks :)

But one small problem - I cann`t saw icontasks in plasma applet menu and thus I didn`t how to run this fine applet :(

Thank you for this wunderful widget.
I have 2 requests. can you make it possible to set the icon right and bottom a little over the border and make them bigger?
for better understanding in CSS this would be
padding-right:-10px;
padding-bottom:-10px;
and the icon in 120% of the normal used?
this would be a big styleup for the "unitylookalike" imho

My second one is the unity style launcher. the backgrounds should be a little lighter for general and the highlighting on the top a little lower. because, if you use a darker plasma theme without transparency the icons are not very visible
look here: http://i.imgur.com/ayN8S.png
left icontasks, right unity in 11.10 with brighter backgrounds and smarter top highlight + a colored border. thats how icontask should look too.

thats all for now ^^

First point - sorry, I don't understand. No idea about CSS stuff, so please provide a screenshot of whats wrong - and how it could be improved.

Second point - I could make the backgrounds a little lighter. Not sure what you mean by "highlighting on the top a little lower" The two apps look pretty similar. Also, the code is *different* between the - and I have *no* intention of making them the same. I'll admit that I obviously copied the idea...

maybe I understand what he means about the second point. In the colored background there is a kind of "source of light" effect that comes from the top of the icon. I believe he wants that light to be darker. I, for me, would remove the "source of light" effect completely and stay with a plain colored background

Sorry for my bad skills with the english language :(

so first.
pic: http://i.imgur.com/pk5k4.png
this little highlight-spot just a little more transparent because the most oxygen-icons and firefox :P has his own highlight at the top

and secound:

the application icon is more that 100% and shifted slightly to the right and bottom

1. Cant really see a great deal of difference.

2. No. This might look ok with some icons, but will look awful with others (e.g. System Settings)

I'll play around with the background gradient, and possible the shine, and see what I think.

p.s. Please don’t apologise for your English, its 1000 times better than my German!

 Crash with new popup menu

by openFox on: Oct 3 2011

Score 50%

Hi,

I really like the possibility to have a popup menu again when clicking on grouped windows.

However, unfortunately plasma-desktop crashes whenever I close a grouped window with this option activated.

KDE is 4.7.1, unfortunately it doesn't give me a backtrace. Any idea on this?

Thanks in advance

The first one would be nice for horizontal panels.
(Although I am considering adopting an Unity-style config if it's not tweaked)

Here because you can adjust the icon size. For the Unity-style can put 90%, for example.
But at 100% zoom icon should be the size of the entire taskbar.

Generally I am still very pleased with this app but I must agree with the first suggestion above.

I generally have just kmenu with the pinned launchers (Windows 7 style) and it does look odd that the menu icons is quite a bit bigger than the other icons or when I fiddle the panel height, the menu is sometimes smaller than the launchers

1. For 0.7.2 when icon scaling is not set to automatic, then the sizing will ignore the task margins. Therefore 100% will equal the full task rect.

2.I dont like the large app icons in the tooltips. The current tooltips do 'highlight' the close button of the task under the mouse. But I agree, a better way of indicating the task under the mouse would be good.

Integration with "Recently Used" is exactly what I was hoping for. An ability to pin documents to launchers would also be nice, but the "Recently Used" links were more important. Thanks for providing sane interfaces for those of us taking refuge from Gnome3!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
