Updated:  Nov 10 2011

Description:

Modified version of KDE 4.7 taskbar applet and taskmanager library.

Modifications:

1. Show only icons (no text) in taskbar.
2. When a launcher is activated, place the task\'s taskbar entry at the same location as the launcher.
3. Tasks with no associated launcher, are placed after launcher tasks (unless alphabetically sorted).
4. Always group tasks.
5. Only allow launchers for items with .desktop files
6. Add a dialog to manually set the association from a window to a .desktop file - so that launcher can be created.
7. Add option to activate/iconify whole group when left button is pressed (taken from SmoothTasks). If disabled, then present windows is used for the group.
8. Use oxygen \'+\' icon to indicate a collpased group.
9. Use middle button to launch new instance of a task.
10. Attempt to place start-up spinner over launcher/task.
11. Add option to always use the launcher icon for taskbar entry - even when app is active. This works-around the issue where some applications (e.g. LibreOffice) have a different launcher/menu icon than the actual app uses.
12. Workaround an issue with a tasks attention state.
13. More tasks shown in tooltips.
14. Close tasks via tooltips.
15. Show right-click menu for task in tooltips.
16. Option to show job progress over task icon.
17. DockManager API support
18. Media player buttons in tooltips
19. Unity API

Changelog:

0.9.2
=====
1. Allow DockManager "icon-file" to refer to an icon name.
2. Add DockManager API extension (capability "x-kde-dock-item-overlay", dock item property "x-kde-overlay") to allow plugins to specify an overlay icon to be placed top-left of icon.
3. Dont attempt to get commandline for pid 0 - seems to crash KSysGuard library.
4. Use plasma themed close icon for tooltips.
5. Clear any exising entries before showing recent documents menu.
6. When reloading xbel/office recent documents, only clear old documents of that type.
7. When an action is marked as a separator, add a separator to the menu - just adding the action leads to an entry that looks like a menu title.
8. Read LibreOffice 3.4 recent documents from recently-used.xbel
9. Fix DockManager::GetItemsByPid

0.9.1
=====
1. When changing tooltip from one item to the next, call the toolTipHidden slot - so that the item can unregister from the tooltip signals.
2. Fix compilation with KDE less than 4.7
3. Fix dockmanager plugin sub-menus.
4. If compiled against KDE 4.8, dont need IconTask specific taskmanager.

0.9.0
=====
1. Use KSysGuard libraries to read process information.
2. Only ever show the separator if we actually have some launchers.
3. Rename taskmanagerrc to taskmanagerrulesrc
4. Middle click on tooltip is same as middle click on task.
5. Add middle click option - "Move To Current Desktop"
6. When manually moving launchers/tasks, move immediately rather than showing the drop indicator. The previous behaviour may be re-enabled by passing -DICON_TASKS_SHOW_DROP_INDICATOR_FOR_MOVE=true to cmake.
7. If there are too many windows for tooltip, display "Plus X more..."
8. Better calculation of rws and columns in tooltip.
9. Fix not being able to interact with first launcher/entry whilst a task is starting.
10. Fix totally broken dockmanager config UI.
11. Dont check if filename changes dock dockmanager, always update if an icon name is set.
12. Only store 1 container of launchers - not map for launchers, and list for sort order.
13. Fix detection of kcmodule launchers.
14. Try not to use exec() to open config dialogs, so as to not freeze plasma!
15. Remove usage of custom properties in QActions for menus.
16. Use standard KOpenWithDialog to select applications. Allows creation of non-desktop based launchers.
17. Save launcher lock state in applet, not taskmanager library.
18. All changes to taskmanager library are now in KDE/master. Because of this there is no 'basic' menu setting, as the menus have been re-arranged. The only difference between IconTasks's taskmanager and KDE (as of 4.8) taskmanager is the name of the Advanced sub menu. In KDE/master this is now know as "More Actions"
19. Don't set DESKTOP_SESSION to ubuntu, UnityFox has been updated an version 0.2.2 no longer requires this. For an updated UnityFox see:

What do you mean by "I like change icons from mi apps like amarok"

Just tried the media buttons with 0.7.1, and they seem to work fine under Amarok for me.

When you edited Amarok via KMenuEdit, KDE saved a new file named "kde4-amarok.desktop"

Now IconTasks matches an app to its MPRIS dbus service via the *desktop* filename. For Amarok this is amarok.desktop, which, matches org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.amarok

When you edited the file, a new one was created - now this no longer matches.

I should probably change the code so that it matches on the windows 'wmClass' attribute. But for now, simply edit either /usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma-icontasks/mediabuttonsrc or ~/.kde/share/apps/plasma-icontasks/mediabuttonsrc and either add (or change) it so that it contains the following:

[Aliases]
amarok=kde4-amarok

Then you need to disable, and re-enable IconTask's support for media buttons in its config dialog (pressing 'Apply' both times) - this is so that the config file is re-read.

This has been reported to me via email, and I'm working on a fix. Can you try editing taskgroupitem.cpp and change about line 381 from:

--------------8<-------------
void TaskGroupItem::checkUpdates()
{
bool needsUpdate = false;

--------------8<-------------

to:

--------------8<-------------

void TaskGroupItem::checkUpdates()
{
if(!m_group) return;

bool needsUpdate = false;

--------------8<-------------

This plasma widget rocks! Works great here at Slackware 13.37 + KDE 4.7.1 (AlienB build).

 box width...

Hi,
first of all,thank you about the best task manager in KDE!!
i have one question...is it possible to give us the abbility to adjaust the width of the icon's box???
because when I'm increasing icons spacing ,I think that i could be better if the boxes's width were bigger(so the boxes's borders to be closer to each other)...
//sorry about my poor English,and thanks again about this great plasmoid!

Task items are square, unless the max width/height is met - then they will be tall (for horizontal panels) or wide (for vertical).

The spacing parameter changes the gap *between* items, and creates "dead" space. I'm not 100% convinced about its usefulness, or about what you are asking for (which would be adding "padding" to the sides of the task to make it wider/taller)

I'm asking exactly this...to give us the ability to make the sides of the task wider/taller so the task icon not to be a square anymore but a rectangle(the dead space will be eliminated)...

I know *what* you are asking for, I just don't see the *need*. Why do you want this? What advantage does a rectangular task item give you?

There are no many practical reasons...just for eye-candy(I don't like the dead spaces between boxes so much)!And of course I know that this is not something very important...

If you don't like dead space, set spacing to 0 (as is the default). I still see no need for rectangular tasks.

 Unity quicklist

I have been asking around to no avail, and although this is a bit off-topic, I am implementing a bash script to form a dynamic quicklist for some app, and I see the Unity API docs mention support for horizontal separators. However, I cannot see any reference or pointer to this feature anywhere.
Is there any way to add a separator between quicklist entries by modifying the launcher .desktop?

The .desktop files are used for *static* quicklists, and IconTasks has no support for separators there - not sure where they would go.

Unity's dynamic quick-lists are created whilst the app is running, and use DbusMenu - is this what you are looking for?

Hm, well, what I did is pick an app and give the launcher the same capabilities the tray icon module of that app has, thus removing the need of running the program as a daemon.

Of course, using the API, this would require to have the program run at some point to populate the launcher. I thought it was more convenient to do it using a bash script to parse the app's config and just add the entries to a local .desktop file copied from the default.

It works, but it looks a bit ugly to not be able to separate the actions from the workspaces the app provides.

Thought I'd ask in case you found it during implementation.

At this point I believe the separators aren't really added to Unity yet, I haven't seen it in use, or documented, anywhere (and Unity is not an easily google-able name :( )

You could always create a dockmanager plugin to add menu items. These plugins are written in python, and can be activated even when the app is not running. This has the advantage that you do not need to edit the .desktop file. (For more info see http://wiki.go-docky.com/index.php?title=Writing_Helpers)

DockManager also does not seem to support adding a separator, but I'm willing to abuse the spec a little to add support for this, if it is required. (e.g. if the icon name is set to "--", then the menu item is a separator...)

Hmm...as much as I'd like the feature, it'd be better to stick to the standards, specially because this is, AFAIK, the only non-Gnome (or at least KDE-ready, as in dockable in a panel with other plasmoids) implementation. Consistency, you know.

Perhaps it will be added to the standards sometime soon, anyway. At least it looks like Unity is *planning* them, so maybe for 12.04...
Thanks anyway!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
