Description:

Cantata is a (yet another!) client for the music player daemon (MPD). Originally started as a fork of QtMPC, the code is now *very* different. Cantata can be compiled with KDE support, or as a pure Qt4 application. The interface is very configurable - most views can be shown as either a list or tree structure.

Currently Cantata has the following views:

1. Library - sorted as Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist not set), Album, and finally Track.
2. Albums - displays albums as icons, sorted by their title.
3. Folders - displays MPDs virtual filesystem. (This view is hidden by default)
4. Playlists
5. Dynamic - dynamic playlists
6. Streams - allows saving of internet radio URLs, searching for stations via TuneIn or ShoutCast, station listings from; Digitally Imported (+Sky, JazzRadio, RockRadio), TuneIn, IceCast, ShoutCast, SomaFM, etc.
7. Online - Jamendo, Magnatune, SoundCloud, and Podcasts
8. Devices - enables copying from/to USB-Mass-Storage (UMS) and MTP devices, and ripping AudioCDs

The sidebar has a context menu, allowing you to control its style and what items are shown.

Refer to http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:Cantata, and https://cantata.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/README, for further information.

Changelog:

1.4.1
-----
1. Remove unused var warning when compiling without online services.
2. Remove some moc/QObject warnings in KDE builds without streams or http server.
3. Update current song to scrobble, even if disabled, so that when enabled we can scrobble.
4. Seems like MPDSribble itself is broken with regards to sending "love" status, so remove MPDScribble from list of scrobblers.
5. Last.fm replies are XML, so decode these properly!
6. Don't log scrobbler session key to debug file.
7. Remove extra margin in podcast settings dialog.
8. When adjusting track numbers in tag editor, start from first actual track.
9. Only enable 'center on current track' action if there is a current track.
10. Use comma to split multiple genres in tooltip and table views.
11. Don't URL encode scrobble keys, just values.
12. If now playing has been sent, track has not been scrobbled, then when track is played after beeing paused for more than 5 seconds resend now playing.
13. Rescrobble, and re-send now playing, if track is repeated.
14. Exceptions are required for all non Qt5 builds.
15. Fix crash in settings dialog when some system-tray options removed.
16. Use QIcon::fromTheme to set system-tray icon.
17. Fix compilation with older ffmpeg versions.
18. Fix compilation with taglib versions older than 1.8
19. Use KDE cmake macro to enable exceptions in KDE builds.
20. Don't alter text of 'Other Views' tab in preferences dialog if streams, online, and device support are disabled - as there are still 2 views; folders and search.
21. Only remove cached scaled covers if updated via cover dialog.
22. If auto-splitter hide is disabled, then restore sizes.
23. ReplayGain settings only valid for MPD v0.16 onwards.
24. Don't center align context view headers and images - as this does not always work for images.
25. Attempt to align song view selector with header.
26. Remove 'Add albums in random order' from search view context menu.
27. Remove mention of streams from initial settings wizard file settings.
28. Fix updating of playqueue background when option changed in preferences dialog.
29. Fix reading of playqueue, and context, backdrop settings.
30. Fix uneven view heights when touch friendly setting is enabled.

1.4.0
-----
Main new features in this release:
1. Use external helper app to read/write tags. Isolates Cantata from TagLib crashes.
2. Lyrics auto-scroll.
3. Option to auto-switch to context view.
4. Toolbar reorganisation.
5. Comment tag support for tag-editor and dynamic playlists.
6. Attempt to respect menubar usage of current DE.
7. Reduce memory used by covers.
8. Artists and albums with new tracks shown in bold.
9. 'Touch Friendly' option - increases button widths, and makes views flickable.
10. Multiple genre support.
11. Streams now stored in '[Radio Streams]' MPD playlist. Compatible with MPDroid development version.
12. Use MusicBrainz AlbumId (if set) to differentiate albums. This helps if you have multiple releases of the same album.
13. Search for streams via dirble.
14. Reduce supplied stream providers to IceCast, ShoutCast, Drible, and TuneIn. Provide dialog to download others from Google drive.
15. Qt-only by default.
16. Scrobbling.
17. Show song lyrics, information, and tags, in context view.

First of all, please use the bug-tracker at cantata.googlecode.com to report bugs.

As to the issue, never seen this. Which build? KDE4? Qt4? Qt5?

Please re-build cantata with debug symbols enabled, pass "-DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug" to cmake. Then run cantata from within gdb (e.g. from a commandline "gdb ./cantata"). When the crash happens, type "where" (without quotes), and post the result.

Support to write covers to a NTFS partition.

Hello, first thanks for cantata, it is the best.

It would be very nice if you can add support to cantata to download and write covers.jpg to a NTFS partition.

Regards.

Ummm... how does it not support this? Cantata uses QFile to write files - it does not care about the filesystem.

Cantata will save covers in either the music folder (if Cantata is configured with the correct 'Music folder' and the option to save here is enabled), or it will save into your XDG cache folder (~/.cache/cantata/covers)

 Cantata bug with accents

 by j4r0k4 on: Mar 13 2014

Score 50%

I realized that my problem wasn't NTFS partition, the bug is that Cantata doesn't support accents in the music folder. My music folder was /home/user/Música (with an accent) and when I restarted cantata one time, the name is changed to /home/cantata/Música/. With that name it have problems, can't write anything to it (but it can at least read the music).
I had to rename my folder to Musica (without accent) and now cantata can write to it.

Thanks for your attention and your work, very very good.

(not to /home/cantata/Música/).

That is, in resume, the problem.

 Cantata Rocks!!

I'm running ubuntu 12.04, and needed a music manager/player that was "gapless". I then came across mpd and gmpc, and was impressed.. but was looking for something a little "more". I came across Cantata.. but it's only for ubuntu 13.04 and up.. figures. :P

But seeing as I was dying to try it, I installed LinuxMint16 in VirtualBox, along with mpd and Cantata. After a few permission issues... it's up and running fine. I absolutely love it! It even has some of my local radio stations pre-programmed.. stations that won't load into other players.

I then got it going in Windows using the exe's.. a lot easier than linux. So now I'm back in ubuntu, trying to get the Windows versions running under wine... can't get the 2 exe's talking to each other. :P

Why don't you just compile Cantata for 12.04? You can build Cantata as a Qt-only app - i.e. there is no need for KDE libs.

That's the first thing I thought of, but not all the dependencies were available for 12.04.

Looking at the readme in the source files, the dependency lists look different than what I was looking at before.. not sure where from. I'll see how far I get in a bit. Thanks.

Found the guide I followed before, and it said to use apt to get the Cantata build dependencies, which couldn't be found.. which is why I gave up before.

Looking at the readme in the source files, I have everything needed for the QT4 build.. but it's erroring while configuring...

Success!!

Found a thread on reddit explaining you need to revert some "OLD" files back to current:

quote:

In CMakeLists.txt

197c197
\< qt4_add_dbus_adaptor(CANTATA_SRCS dbus/org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.xml dbus/mpris.h Mpris)
---
> qt4_add_dbus_adaptor(CANTATA_SRCS dbus/org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.OLD.xml dbus/mpris.h Mpris)
205c205
< qt4_add_dbus_interfaces(CANTATA_SRCS dbus/org.freedesktop.Notifications.xml)
---
> qt4_add_dbus_interfaces(CANTATA_SRCS dbus/org.freedesktop.Notifications.OLD.xml)

Also move the dbus/...OLD.xml files into the NON old versions.

http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1o9yjo/i_recently_found_cantata_a_qtbased_mpd_client/

The line #'s in CMakeLists.txt don't match to his hint, but I just used the search tab. The files in dbus were easy enough to find.

Here's the dependencies I installed:

sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake qt4-dev-tools libqt4-core libqt4-gui libqt4-network libqt4-xml libqt4-dbus libqt4-webkit libtag1-dev libmtp-dev ffmpeg libspeexdsp-dev libmpeg3-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libavutil-dev libmpg123-dev zlibc zlib1g zlib1g-dev libcdparanoia-dev libqt4-dev libtag-extras-dev

For Kubuntu, I added kdelibs5-dev to the list. Working in both distros.

Yes. KDE builds uses KDE's global keyboard shortcut support. Qt (Linux) build use GNOME settings.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
