Description:

Cantata is a (yet another!) client for the music player daemon (MPD). Originally started as a fork of QtMPC, the code is now *very* different. Cantata can be compiled with KDE support, or as a pure Qt4 application. The interface is very configurable - most views can be shown as either a list or tree structure.

Currently Cantata has the following views:

1. Library - sorted as Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist not set), Album, and finally Track.
2. Albums - displays albums as icons, sorted by their title.
3. Folders - displays MPDs virtual filesystem. (This view is hidden by default)
4. Playlists
5. Dynamic - dynamic playlists
6. Streams - allows saving of internet radio URLs, searching for stations via TuneIn or ShoutCast, station listings from; Digitally Imported (+Sky, JazzRadio, RockRadio), TuneIn, IceCast, ShoutCast, SomaFM, etc.
7. Online - Jamendo, Magnatune, SoundCloud, and Podcasts
8. Devices - enables copying from/to USB-Mass-Storage (UMS) and MTP devices, and ripping AudioCDs

The sidebar has a context menu, allowing you to control its style and what items are shown.

Refer to http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:Cantata, and https://cantata.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/README, for further information.

Changelog:

1.4.0
-----
Main new features in this release:
1. Use external helper app to read/write tags. Isolates Cantata from TagLib crashes.
2. Lyrics auto-scroll.
3. Option to auto-switch to context view.
4. Toolbar reorganisation.
5. Comment tag support for tag-editor and dynamic playlists.
6. Attempt to respect menubar usage of current DE.
7. Reduce memory used by covers.
8. Artists and albums with new tracks shown in bold.
9. 'Touch Friendly' option - increases button widths, and makes views flickable.
10. Multiple genre support.
11. Streams now stored in '[Radio Streams]' MPD playlist. Compatible with MPDroid development version.
12. Use MusicBrainz AlbumId (if set) to differentiate albums. This helps if you have multiple releases of the same album.
13. Search for streams via dirble.
14. Reduce supplied stream providers to IceCast, ShoutCast, Drible, and TuneIn. Provide dialog to download others from Google drive.
15. Qt-only by default.
16. Scrobbling.
17. Show song lyrics, information, and tags, in context view.

Since last update (0.8.1), configure shortcuts disappeared.

Still there for me. You did build the KDE version? Only the KDE version supports configuring of keyboard shortcuts - as it uses the KDE infrastructure.

Hello
0.8.2 did not change anything. (http://ompldr.org/vZXZrbA.png) It use the same way of compilation as old versions (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=55187)
I deleted all configuration files (~/.kde4/share/config/cantatarc, ~/.config/cantata/cantata.conf and ~/.cache/cantata. For now, I have no more ideas.

As I said, ONLY the kde version has this, and it's still there. Sounds like you are using the qt-only build.

Nothing has changed in 0.8.2 for this, as nothing needs to be changed.

Your screenshot proves that you are using the qt-only build. You need to recompile with KDE libraries in order to get the shortcuts dialog.

Sorry, I was away for a moment.
I figured out that on my Archlinux, cmake could not find automoc4, that's why It was a qt-only build (-- KDE4 not found, because Automoc4 not found.). I fixed it by adding "export Automoc4_DIR=/usr/lib/automoc4" in my .bashrc and here we go !
Thanks for your patience

 automagic deps

Hello, thank you for nice app.

Cantata has several optional deps and features, but all of them are automagic. Please add cmake options for disabling them even if required package is installed and found. It is required for gentoo USE flags.

I've just commited support for this. This will be in 0.8.3. However, if you can please checkout the latest from SVN and confirm the changes.

Also, in future - please report bugs/wishes on the googlecode page. I'll see them sooner :-)

 support for new mpd tags

by zeltakc on: Aug 14 2012

Hya

How are you? i recently found out the new mpd 0.17 has support for a bunch of user customizable tags. i was wondering if we could have finally proper support for rating. i know the free desktop common rating filed is 'FMPS_Rating'. more info on FMPS can be found here:

http://gitorious.org/xdg-specs/xdg-specs/blobs/master/specifications/FMPSpecs/specification.txt

using this common rating field will allow to import already available ratings within file and write the new ones into the common field.

This would be great for dynamic/smart/etc playlists

Thx again

Zeltak

And how do you configure MPD to look at the FMPS_Rating tag?

To use this tag in any meaningful way, it needs to be recognised by MPD. To use it in dynamic playlists I need to be able to ask mpd 'find Genre "Metal" FMPS_Rating "1"' So that it will find all Metal songs with a rating of 1. If MPD does not read and store the tag - then it is effectively useless.

 mpd ratings

hya craigD

im not to technical with all the mpd struture or how its built but i got this idea after someone mentioned in #mpd that the new version 0.17 can read/write(?) various new tags including multiple user defined ones. if you want i can ask around on #mpd but it would be better if you could ask cirrus directly.

thx for considering this

oh offtopic ncmpcc just implemented proper queueing using the new mpd priority system..pretty cool :)

Z.

...never used 'irc'. All I need to know is;
1. How to retrieve the tag via MPD
2. How to use the tag in searches

As to queue support - Cantata already has this. Or is there something missing?

This is the commit. I am trying to find the documentation for it. mpd wikia is a total mess.

As stated above:

What I need to know is;
1. How to retrieve the tag via MPD
2. How to use the tag in searches

Until the above is answered, I cant do anything.

I have no issues with adding support for this - but it is not something I would personally use. Therefore, I'm not inclined to spend ages trying to find the answers to the above. Once they are answered, I'll happily implement the feature...

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
