 3D.

3D plots beginning in worksheet data, power-frequency plots and polar charts would be wonderful.
It's a important suggestion. Don't you think?
I've been testing Qtiplot with some UV and infrared spectra data and I found it fastest, and really much and much more stable than Origin, if you want to know. And I'm very happy about it, because it's important to me and to other people too.
I'm trying to learn C, C# languages to help with project.
Salut.
Bye.

Hi amigo,

Very pleased to see your comments!
Polar plots and 3D plots from data are in plan, but it needs a lot of work, a lot of time (I also have to earn my living, cause I'm just a poor guy!).
So, patience and optimism!
By,

P.S: I'll ask your help with the translations!

 Ternary plots?

Good job so far.
I wished there was also a ternary plot frequently used in geological sciences. Maybe I should point this wish to the Qwt-project but I' going to be a QtiPlot user.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment!
Ternary plots seem very hard to implement in the actual state of the Qwt library! Maybe you could contact the developpers (there's a mailing list) and ask for this feature!

Best regards,
Ion

I passed your question on to Qwt-interest and this is the answer:

----------------------------
This would be a completely new type of widget. I don't believe that we have the manpower in the next 6 months because we have to work on the Qt4 port and Qwt 4.3.

But a new type of plot widget is also a good chance for a volunteer to work on something interesting without having too many dependencies. So if you like to take this, you will have any type of support you need.
----------------------------

Since I don't need it badly, I won't work myself on this for the forseeable future. (vasilief has also indicated that he is not willing to do so either.)

Thus: Either do it yourself, pay someone to do it or wait till someone else does it.

Here it works with the CVS (HEAD) version of Qwt; this should be identically to 4.2.0, which has been released on 17 November and is available at

 QtiPlot with new qwt

by burnus on: Feb 9 2005

Score 50%

Using the newest version of qwt (CVS), the QwtDiMap class has disappeared in favour of QwtScaleMap. And QwtScale has been renamed to QwtScaleWidget.

In order to compile, run

perl -pi -e 's/QwtDiMap(\W)/QwtScaleMap$1/g' `grep -rl QwtDiMap .`

perl -pi -e 's/QwtScale(\W)/QwtScaleWidget$1/g' `grep -rl QwtScale .`

perl -pi -e 's/setScale(\W)/setScaleDiv$1/g' ./src/graph.cpp

perl -pi -e 's/axisScaleDiv(\W)/axisScaleDiv$1/g' `grep -rl QwtScale .`

in your QtiPlot directory.

Well, this is actually not enough, one needs some fine-tuning of the classes (e.g. QwtScaleDiv->majStep() disappeared).

Hi Tobias,

I think that there is no need for these changes untill a new stable version of Qwt will be released. Till then, I'll continue to use Qwt 4.2.0 and not CVS versions for any updates in QtiPlot.

Thanks anyway and best wishes,

Which makes a lot of sense. I actually only did a cvs update, not expecting any incompatible changes. And then I thought that there were only minor renames.
Anyway, now I switch back to Qwt 4.2.0.

Hi,

I'm not sure where's the problem, cause on my machine (under Unix Debian and under Windows too) it works fine.

Maybe you could try commenting out the lines calling the "makeCurrent()" in the graph3D.cpp source file, from functions:
void Graph3D::addFunction(....) (line 218)
and void Graph3D::initCoord()
(line 202), like this:

//sp->makeCurrent();

After that recompile QtiPlot, verify if it works and please tell me what happens.

Best regards,
Ion

P.S. What happens when you try creating a 3D plot from a table column?

Hi,

You don't have to install the Fast Mathematicl Parser library, because the sources are included in the QtiPlot archive and the messages you get when you compile QtiPlot are mainly warnings due to the parser library.

Regarding the error you get with 3D plots, I really don't know what to say: it might be due to your graphic card! Try to resize the plots and please tell me what happens!

Hi,

I've just found a solution to your problem: you should install the mesag3 library.

The following link provides the Debian package, that you can transform to a .rpm package with "alien" and than install on your Fedora distribution:

http://higgs.djpig.de/ubuntu/www/hoary/libs/mesag3

Please tell me if it works for you!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
