Description:

.~`~.~`~. IMPORTANT NOTE! .~`~.~`~.
| This script is now obsolete since
| the HPLIP drivers, which work
| as they should. Use only if you
| still use the ancient drivers.
.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`~.~`

I've got a HP PSC 1210 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier and I had to switch by hand from one driver to the other everytime I wanted to print or scan. ...so I made a script to just change the mode of the all-in-one in a single click.

So I'm posting this little script here, for everyone who has the same "problem".

This is my first ever usable script, and a lot of kind souls have helped me to make it - thank you.

uncompress the tarball to where you want the script to run.
make a link/shortcut on the desktop and in the program->command type:
kdesu -t /path/to/scanner_en.sh

Notes:
1) you have to have an all-in-one with which you have to use ptal-init to change from printing to scanning (and back)
2) you have to be able to get root access, else ptal-init won't do the magic
3) _en is for english!
4) those who already use KDE 3.3 can uncomment the two "#kdialog" lines to get passive popups informing them of the action.

Due to public demand, here's the info about the wallpaper and the (Super)Karamba theme:
wallpaper (most probably) taken from: http://kawaiiscreen.free.fr/ and the file's called: Stupify_KawaiiSmile_1024.jpg
the info bar on the right can be found here:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12690

Changelog:

Obsolete since the HP drivers are unified and working as they should. Use the HPLIP ( http://hplip.sourceforge.net ) drivers (unless you have a odd good reason not to!)

I will keep it published here though for those few who (for some reason or another) don't want to use the new drivers.

I use Gentoo. But from how I followed the instructions on linuxprinting.org it was said that you should use both HP drivers for this device.

Why? HPIJS prints at better quality, and HPOJ is able to scan.

The script I made is to "switch" between these two drivers.

It works like a charm for me :]

About setting up the printer: I'd really visit http://www.linuxprinting.org if I were you.

quoted from linuxprinting.org:

---[start of quote]---
Scanning works using the HPOJ low-level driver together with its SANE backend "hpoj". However, note that when using the current version (0.9) you can only scan, and when you don't use HPOJ at all you can only print. To fix this so you can both print and scan, you MUST install libusb and upgrade to the CVS version of HPOJ.

it's a SuperKaramba theme - since I don't use the python script for the email, I just run it in normal Karamba.

Here's the link to it:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12690

you might also try this one (it's the same one, only with the info bubbles separated):

 sudo?

You could use sudo to prevent being everytime asked when switching the profile.
Have a look at "man:sudo" and "man:sudoers"

Greetings

I've been thinking of sudo too, but then decided for (kde)su, since it has a kde gui to log into.

As for sudoers - it's a great idea, but it'd take me some time to make a script to add a user to sudoers - maybe someday later.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
