A beautiful taskbar for kicker.

o flat and transparent (if kicker is transparent)
o animated thumbnail views (animation equations correspond to kpager2)

You probably need to restart kicker after adding the taskbar.

based on taskbar of kde 3.2

FIX the file modification times first:
find . -print -exec touch {} \;

(make -f Makefile.cvs)
make install

If it doesn't work, you probably need to remove the autom4te directory. Moreover, using mtaskbar.kdevelop will help in any case.

Have fun!

rpm -Uhv filename

no changes, just new packages from third-parties

o fix: transparency on nontransparent kicker
o fix: 'on mouse hover and click' works again
o new: semitransparent buttons
o new: application exclude list for screenshots (usage: "className, windowRole;className, windowRole [..]")

o fix: definitely flickerfree
o fix: textcolor, now guaranteed readibility
o new: thumbnail will hide itself after 5 seconds (tool tip behaviour)
o new: apply icon effects (eg. toGray)

o transparency works now!!
o less flicker
o better thumbnail animation on small resolutions
o improved shadow style
o some new options

o new: shadows around text vs. text color
o new: smooth effects when blending in buttons
o fix: thumbnail flicker reduction
o fix: button flickers at window moving

o cleaner animations, animation enabled/disabled like in KControl
o disable animation if popupp was opened
o configuration: show buttons/ show thumbnails

o animated thumbnail views

o make taskbar flat and transparent

This has become really cool.
It should one day be integrated
into KDE by default! The button
look of the ordinary taskbar
completely destroyed the transparent
Minor glitch:
My desktop background image isn't
continued seamlessly. It looks like
TaskbarV2 took the wrong part of
the image.

Quite often (especially while
webbrowsing and changing pages
often) the hover image shows
an outdated image.
I know this is because you only can
do the screenshot once in a while
because it would slow down the
computer too quick if a
large screenshot is taken every
second. But I have an idea:
Would it be possible to request
just a single pixel close to the
corner of the window and if it
is different to what is saved
then update immediately!
If that doens't work, would it be
possible to do a screenshot always
before showing the thumbnail if
and only if the window is not

Thanks for all the work so far
it's really appreciated.

Due to X11 limitations (without using the xorg thing) it is only possible to take screenshots of the actual screen and to crop the windows from there. A continuous update is not possible unless it is the active window (doesn't work in 'focus on mouse hover' mode, only in 'focus on click'). Whenever XCompMgr becomes default I might integrate it, such that we have at least a new thumbnail every 20 seconds.

Sometimes when taking the screenshot X is too slow to redraw the opened window. Hence I take a screenshot when the windows is not yet painted - a wrong one. Therefore, I introduced a short delay of 50 msec to let X draw. This methods is working in most cases. Sometimes, however, X is still too slow or in the other case the user is too fast in switching between windows and the screenshot is takien too late.

There is no chance too make it better right now. Later - sure. If it is distracting I recommend to disable the feature for the next 18 months. ;-)

 About Contrast

I'm using this task bar with fun.
And I found one thing.

The title characters (on task bar) are
not readable when the corresponding window
is inactive.
When the window is active, the title is
very clear black and look nice.
I think title on task bar should be
clear when the window is inactive
because people probably access to it
when they want maximize some windows.
(it is rather useful to be clear
when they watch it!)

I believe this is not a problem with the taskbar, but with the fonts you are using. (I don't have any problems here). It's just that the font will be bold for active tasks. If other tasks (inactive or minimized) are almost unreadable, change the taskbar font in the control center.

 Buttons Smooth grow

Me, one more time :-/
I just noticed the animation when a task appears.
It's cool, but it's not I meaned by "xp like anim".
I means: the entry take 5 pixels width, and a fraction of second it take 10 pixels, and then 15... until it has grown to its size. When a task disappears, it "ungrow": it lost 5 pixels, and other 5 pixels, until its size is == 0.
That's very smooth and eye candy, by removing the rigidity appearance of the taskbar.

I know. I planned something like this. But that would need some changes in the layout which would break compatiblity with the original taskbar. I will collect these suggestions and will file a bug report for the taskbar.

It would be great if you could integrate taking Screenshots of Windows with Kompose.

If you have Kompose and your Taskbar running, Screenshots are taken twice. It would be great if you app would take screenshots and kompose can access these screenshots.

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

Ouch. that's true, indeed - I was already thinking about redundant thumbnails in kpager2. But: How to do that?

PS: Your bug concerning dragndrop - I can't reproduce it here.

I am unable to get the boxes in the taskbar to be transparent. The whole bar is, but as soon as I open a window, the effect is ruined by a grey box. Your screenshot doesn't have this problem; any clues on what I'm doing wrong?

nevermind, I'm offically a dummy. For anyone making the my same mistake, remove the taskbar applet from kicker and add taskbar v2.

I'm sorry to bother you, but this app is causing small pauses with all OpenGL and Video-player applications... :-(

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
