Taskbar v2 (flat + thumbnails)
zoom

Link:  http://
Depends on  KDE 3.3.x
Downloads:  28959
Submitted:  Sep 17 2004
Updated:  Mar 28 2005

Description:

A beautiful taskbar for kicker.

features:
o flat and transparent (if kicker is transparent)
o animated thumbnail views (animation equations correspond to kpager2)

You probably need to restart kicker after adding the taskbar.

based on taskbar of kde 3.2

compilation:
FIX the file modification times first:
find . -print -exec touch {} \;

Then
(make -f Makefile.cvs)
./configure
make
su
make install

If it doesn't work, you probably need to remove the autom4te directory. Moreover, using mtaskbar.kdevelop will help in any case.

Have fun!

 somewhat buggy

by jurrie on: Oct 23 2004

i like the features of the taskbar, but for me it is somewhat buggy. As soon as i hover over an app in the taskbar, and then over a second app in the taskbar, the tekst of the first app gets mixed with the text of the second app.

Kinda hard to explain like this, so let's use an image: http://shorl.com/betipritifradra

is it some setting on my side?

yes, I believe it is time to upload the latest version, before I forget that all of you have to use one with disturbing edges and bleeds.

I had the same problem as Jurrie with the previous version. It seems that the problem still exist with version 0.6.

dito, same problems as in previous version.

I also installed the previous version on my workstation at work, with a suse rpm (gentoo at home), and it also had a 'configure' menu, which lacks at home.

Same bug here, but to clarify - it only shows up for me when taskbar transparency is off! When I switch it on and restart kicker everything is fine!

Can you do something for customising the text colour maybe? Also maybe have a semi-transparent mouseover instead of opaque? :D

I've been looking for a transparent taskbar with depair for ages !

Thank you very much for this !
You really need to put that in standart KDE. Tell me what i can do to help you doing this.

As for the install, it won't compil on my mdk 10.1 box, but the precompiled binairies worked fine.
No problem with reduced images from mplayer.

Question : How can i change the color of the letters in the taskbar ???

I can highly recommend it.
I use the taskbar since quite
some time now without major
problems. One thing that would
be great though: There should
be a configurable list of apps
TaskbarV2 does not take
a screenshot of. Because when
I run a video in KPlayer
the video stutters every 15
seconds or so. I suspect this
is because TaskbarV2 is taking
its screenshots.

It is taking the screenshots every 15 seconds actually! I will implement your suggestion in 0.7. But don't expect it to be done soon.

 automake problem

 by stefan99 on: Nov 10 2004

Score 50%

'make' fails on my machine having automake-1.8.6 and aclocal-1.8 installed.
Somehow the make process explicitly invokes aclocal-1.7:

cd . && /bin/sh /opt/mtaskbar-0.6/mtaskbar/admin/missing --run aclocal-1.7
/opt/mtaskbar-0.6/mtaskbar/admin/missing: line 46: aclocal-1.7: command not found
WARNING: `aclocal-1.7' is missing on your system. You should only need it if
you modified `acinclude.m4' or `configure.in'. You might want
to install the `Automake' and `Perl' packages. Grab them from
any GNU archive site.

Faking 'ln -s aclocal-1.7 aclocal-1.8' does not help. :(

 Feature request

Hello,

Sorry if that subject line sounds demanding, I should say this is a really good bit of work and hopefully it'll appear in future release of KDE.

Would it be possible to have the screen shots actually being the items in the taskbar, similar to in OS X?

Charlie

Well. I am not a friend of OS X, but I have something in mind of Sun's LookingGlass, which is quite cool. It is 'quite' a different concept and will take soooome time... :)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
