Description:

konqil.icio.us is a KDE service menu for delicious.com.

To install:

1) Either:
- For per user installs, copy del.icio.us and del.icio.us.desktop to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus (KDE 3.x) or $HOME/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ (KDE 4.x)
- For global all users installs, copy del.icio.us to somewhere in your $PATH (for example /usr/bin) and del.icio.us.desktop to the global servicemenus directory /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus (KDE 3.x) or /usr/share/services/ServiceMenus/ (KDE 4.x) and remove the explicit path references from del.icio.us.desktop ($HOME/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/del.icio.us)
2) Make sure del.icio.us is executable (chmod u+x $HOME/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/del.icio.us in the case of a per user install)

del.icio.us only makes use of a config file in $HOME/.kde/share/config/del.icio.usrc to store your username and password if you haven't enabled KWalletD. Either way, it will prompt you for your username and password the first time you use it from the context sensitive Actions menu.

Note, konqil.icio.us makes use of the Perl HTML, URI and LWP modules installed (liburi-perl, libhtml-parser-perl and libwww-perl packages under GNU/Debian).

The latest version of konqil.icio.us can always be found at
.

 New features

If anyone has any features they'd like to see in konqil.icio.us, please let me know. I was thinking of using Kommander to provide a better interface for configuration and book marking, but what do people think?

Hello,
Thanks for this useful service menu.
Can you update your app with new menu item 'Direct bookmark', which will add a bookmark directly to del.icio.us' inbox without any questions?
Thanks!

Glennie

I don't see why not, I may hold off adding it until the 1.0 release which is currently being written to use Kommander for a far richer interface. 0.5+ will just be fixes.

You should check the delicious Firefox plugin. It has a simple dialog box to fill the data to submit the link.
Some useful fields to the Kommander dialog would be:

  • My tags: The tags i've already used to catalog other links.
  • Other people's tags: The tags other people has used to catalog the link im adding.

Maybe that's what you're adding with the Kommander interfase, if so, keep the good work ;)

ckozus.

This is exactly why I'm developing the next version in Kommander, I want to give all the KDE del.icio.us monkeys a wonderfully rich interface.

This looks great, but the download link isn't working. The file seems to be missing. I'd love to try it out.

 SECURITY WARNING!

by sjmorgan on: Jun 21 2005

Score 50%

Do not use the current version of this software (0.4) as it has a fairly serious security flaw.

Because it uses the GET HTTP method to authenticate to del.icio.us, if you use the "Display My Bookmarks" feature and then click on one of your bookmarks, the following information gets sent in the headers:

Referer: http://del.icio.us/username?user_name=username&password=YOURPASSWORD

This basically means that anyone on that server with access to the web server logs will have your del.icio.us username and password.

Oh yeah, and it goes without saying that if you've already installed and used it then you should probably change your password.

This has now been fixed in Konqil.icio.us 0.5. Authentication is now done via HTTP Basic Authentication. I suck, I know. Ironically the 1.0 release has a completely different backend which wouldn't have been susceptible because it's going to use Kommander and the del.icio.us API but there we go.

Hi, really like your service menu, the best del.icio.us-thing until Konq gets real RSS-bookmarks=) To make this work in Debian you'll need 'libwww-perl', just wanted to mention this if someone else wondering why it won't run,-)

Just wanted to mention that to make sure that the del.icio.us-file is executable, 'chmod +x ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/del.icio.us' that is in the konsole.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
