Updated:  Feb 13 2005

Description:

This is a script for amarok (you need amarok >= 1.2beta4). The script shows the cover of the album you are listening embedded in your desktop.

It also adds a lightning effect (this is configurable by the user)

NOTE: this is not a karamba script

You need pyqt and pykde to run it.

Changelog:

0.2:
-Now it hides the cover if amarok is stopped (Thanks to Pierre Habouzit).
-Hides itself if there is no cover defined.
-It shows an alert if you dont have PyQT or PyKDE installed (Thanks to Mark Kretschmann).
-The light filter is a little bit smoother now
-Real cd-box borders instead the old gray borders

0.1a:
-Get the coverImage using "dcop amarok player" instead of "dcop amarok playlist"
-Fixed the tab order in the config dialog
-Now it's correctly packaged

0.1:
-Initial release

 Resize Cover

by bodum on: Feb 8 2005

What about a smaller Version of the Cover? It's way tooo large for my Desktop.

And a "hide Window" if nothing is playing/no Cover fits would be great, too ;)

mmmm ok, it would be nice. I will try to do it for the 0.2 release

Yeah, already implemented in the 0.2 version which will be released this weekend.

Instead of using a smaller Cover there should be the option to set the size of it, e.g. like the current positioning option.

Yep, I was thinking in something like that.

The next version will have real cd-box borders instead the old gray borders so I'm thinking how to do it. Probably I will use a SVG cd-box.

By the way, here (http://acm.asoc.fi.upm.es/~jorge/desktop/diff.png) you can see a little screenshot of the actual 0.2 code (still needs a lot of work)

 Loading Plugin

Is there a way to load the plugin in amarok initialization? For example: when you start amaroK, the plugin loads itself.
Is there a way to do that?
Thanx.

There's an autorun option in amarok's script manager but you need amarok-cvs. It was added after beta4

How about if the cover, when starting or changing songs, comes to the top of windows an then go back to the background (desktop), just as the OSD display? I like so much your work. It would be great if I could see it everytime the music changes.

I grabbed the CVS amarok version just to have your nice script running all the time. Thank you!
I hope the amarok developers will include the script in amarok.

I'm using amarok-cvs and I have no problem with the script. Maybe the problem is kdelibs.
Did you update to kde 3.4?

There is a snapshot of PyKDE that works on kde 3.4:

http://www.river-bank.demon.co.uk/download/snapshots/PyKDE/

You can try this to ensure:

python -c "import kdecore"

Anyway the 0.3 version will be released next week with some features like resizeable cover (using cairo http://cairographics.org) and maybe with a shadow option.

Yes, sorry maybe the problem is in some other packages that i updated, but i did not find which one in that moment. I am not with kde3.4 and script is working fine before I get update with apt-get

Im haveing the exact same problem. I used this script fine with amarok 1.2 but after updating amaroK, it wont play. PyKde isnt recognized.

On running " python -c "import kdecore" "
I get

"Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 1, in ?
RuntimeError: the sip module supports API v1.0 to v1.0 but the kdecore module requires API v0.2"

Hopefully this'll be fixed in the next version.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
