Updated:  Feb 13 2005

Description:

This is a script for amarok (you need amarok >= 1.2beta4). The script shows the cover of the album you are listening embedded in your desktop.

It also adds a lightning effect (this is configurable by the user)

NOTE: this is not a karamba script

You need pyqt and pykde to run it.

Changelog:

0.2:
-Now it hides the cover if amarok is stopped (Thanks to Pierre Habouzit).
-Hides itself if there is no cover defined.
-It shows an alert if you dont have PyQT or PyKDE installed (Thanks to Mark Kretschmann).
-The light filter is a little bit smoother now
-Real cd-box borders instead the old gray borders

0.1a:
-Get the coverImage using "dcop amarok player" instead of "dcop amarok playlist"
-Fixed the tab order in the config dialog
-Now it's correctly packaged

0.1:
-Initial release

 Bug

by hemanrulez on: Apr 18 2005

Score 50%

Im haveing the exact same problem. I used this script fine with amarok 1.2 but after updating amaroK, it wont play. PyKde isnt recognized.

On running " python -c "import kdecore" "
I get

"Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 1, in ?
RuntimeError: the sip module supports API v1.0 to v1.0 but the kdecore module requires API v0.2"

Hopefully this'll be fixed in the next version.

Great idea, but could you tell me how did you get this shadows? And does it slow down the maschine significantly?

Thanks

Hi,

I got it using XOrg 6.8.x (www.x.org) and it runs pretty smoothly.

With XOrg 6.8.x you will also get translucent windows (true transparency)

Well, I don't use icons in kdesktop so I didn't notice that. Thanks for the report I will try to fix it for the next version.

I've been a little busy last months so that's why the 0.3 version did not come yet :(
In free weeks I hope to release it with new features like cover resize using arthur or (temporarily) cairo, shadow support, etc..

Really nifty and everything. By the way could add any `alpha' option for translucency? It's nice to have the icon `on-top' of every other window without it getting in the way of anything. What do you think?

Nice idea, and if you have xorg 6.8 you already can get this effect due to composite extension.
(look at: http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Xorg_X11_and_Transparency and http://forchheimer.se/transset-df/)

You also will have to change in desktop.py this line:

KWin.setState(self.winId(), NET.KeepBelow | NET.SkipPager | NE T.SkipTaskbar)

to:

KWin.setState(self.winId(), NET.StaysOnTop | NET.SkipPager | NE T.SkipTaskbar)

in order to get the desktop script always on top.

 Oh and something else

Would it be possible to get a menu when we right click on the icon similar to the one we get when we click on the album-icon inside amarok? (you know ... for setting/unsetting the album-icon etc) It would really come in handy when we'ld like to change a broken album-icon. If this feature is added maybe it would be nice to let the n/a-album-icon (you know ... the one with the question mark) be shown too in order to change it on the fly.

It will be nice but I don't know this is possible.

Maybe in 1.3CVS there's a dcop call for this.

Hi, I thought, with some ripples the cover would look better.

Sorry, my fault.
You have to have an eye on indentation. The line with the for-statement has to have the same indentation with the line above it. The "painter"-line has to have a larger indentation. It should look like (_ is a space):

painter.fillRect(2,4,1,self.height-8,QBrush(QColor(160,160,160)))
#ribs
for rib in range(0,10):
_____painter.fillRect(2*rib+3,4,1,self.height-8,QBrush(QColor(50,50,50)))
#strip
painter.fillRect(20,4,1,self.height-8,QBrush(QColor(138,138,138)))

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
