Description:

This is a script for amarok (you need amarok >= 1.2beta4). The script shows the cover of the album you are listening embedded in your desktop.

It also adds a lightning effect (this is configurable by the user)

NOTE: this is not a karamba script

You need pyqt and pykde to run it.

Changelog:

0.2:
-Now it hides the cover if amarok is stopped (Thanks to Pierre Habouzit).
-Hides itself if there is no cover defined.
-It shows an alert if you dont have PyQT or PyKDE installed (Thanks to Mark Kretschmann).
-The light filter is a little bit smoother now
-Real cd-box borders instead the old gray borders

0.1a:
-Get the coverImage using "dcop amarok player" instead of "dcop amarok playlist"
-Fixed the tab order in the config dialog
-Now it's correctly packaged

0.1:
-Initial release

 Problem

by sebbe on: Jul 28 2005

Hi!

I've got a Problem:
I've got permanently the black CD-Cover image on my desktop.
Even if amaroK hasn't been started in this KDE-Session (!). It appears directly afer Logon.

I installed the Script, but got the Message that PyKDE isn't installed.
Afer fixing it, it works fine. I changed the coordinates to another Position and everything is ok, but there is still an instance of the original Cover on the original Position. (Upper left corner)

Is there a permanent buffer I can delete?

Thank you for Reading,
Seb

Hi,

Is pretty bizarre mmmm maybe the problem is that you have enabled "Restore manually saved session" in KDE Components/Session Manager in kcontrol.
Try to change it to "Start with an empty session" or save a new one after deleting all instances (with a "killall -9 python" or ctrl+esc...)

I've already read this problem before so I should change the script to KUniqueApplication or something like this.

Anyway, please, tell me if changing the options in kcontrol solve your problem.

Great!

That fixed it: "killall python"

Seems that KDE stored the bad process and recreates it everytime it loads my profile.

Thanks a lot,
Seb

 Doesn't work

I have tried to install this script many times but it always complains that PyKDE Bindings are needed but I have installed PyKDE. Is there any way I can point the script to the installation directory. If so how? Im on mandriva2005LE using KDE 3.4. I would appreciate any help on this one.

It seems a python path problem or a version mismath :(

Try in a konsole:

python -c "import kdecore"

If you get any error then probably there's a problem in the pyKDE package you have installed.

Anyway, you can try to install this snapshot manually (remove first the package version you have already installed):

Thank you for the reply but I can't compile PyKDE. I think it may be an issue with the versions I have. When compiling the snapshot I get the error, sip: Unable to find file "qt/qtmod.sip"
After an slocate im sure this is not on my system. Does it mean a recompile of SIP?

"qt/qtmod.sip" is provided by PyQt

Probably you need the pyqt-devel package, if it exists in Mandriva. If not you will have to compile PyQt too :(

By the way I'm using PyQt 3.14.1 and SIP 4.2.1

It's definitely one of my favorites. I've got it running with amaroK 1.3 and KDE 3.4.2, and it works flawlessly.

One question (since I don't know much about Python): would it be possible to save the image that's on the desktop to a directory somewhere? I have shown the script off to several friends, but I always have to take a screenshot. If it added realtime capability (saving it each time the album changes in other words), it could be used on a quick web page and it'd be pretty neat looking.

If this were Perl I could do it in a heartbeat, but with Python and the KDE/QT bindings I just don't know.

Thanks!

 Black/random cover

Hi everyone,

this plugin works well about 70% of the time... However, sometimes, with some albums pictures, I displays a black picture, or some "trash" (seemingly random picture). It must have something to do with the picture format, however, it just ought to be some standard png pictures... Any idea ?

Thanks a lot !

PS : apart from that, this is a great script :)

Hi,
got the same problem here. I've opened some of the images in a hexeditor and saw, that they were corrupted. Seems that amarok sometimes adds a bit to the image.
You can fix it by either removing these files from your personal amarok dir or repair them with a hexeditor.

Greetings

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
